My Saviour and my King

Appears in 75 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 45 Lyrics: 1 My Saviour and my King, thy Beauties are Divine; Thy Lips with Blessings overflow, and ev'ry Grace is thine. 2 Now make thy Glory known, gird on thy dreadful Sword, And ride in Majesty to spread the Conquests of thy Word. 3 Strike thro' thy stubborn Foes, or melt their Hearts t'obey, While Justice, Meekness, Grace, and Truth attend thy glorious Way. 4 Thy Laws, O GOD, are right; thy Throne shall ever stand; And thy victorious Gospel proves a Sceptre in thy Hand. 5 Thy Father and thy GOD hath without Measure shed His Spirit like a joyful Oil t'anoint thy sacred Head. 6 Behold, at thy Right-hand the Gentile Church is seen, Like a fair Bride in rich Attire; and Princes guard the Queen. 7 Fair Bride, receive his Love, forget thy Father's House; Forsake thy Gods, thy Idol-Gods, and pay thy Lord thy Vows. 8 O let thy God and King thy sweetest Thoughts employ; Thy Children shall his Honour sing in Palaces of Joy.

My Heart Does Overflow

Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 12 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 45:1-10 Lyrics: 1 My heart does overflow, a goodly theme is mine; my eager tongue with joyful song does praise the King divine. Supremely fair you are, your lips with grace o'erflow; his richest blessings evermore does God on you bestow. 2 Now gird thee with your sword, O strong and mighty One, in splendid majesty arrayed, more glorious than the sun. Triumphantly ride forth for meekness, truth, and right; your arm shall gain the victory in wondrous deeds of might. 3 Your strength shall overcome all those that hate the King, and under your dominion strong the nations you shall bring. Your royal throne, O God, forevermore shall stand; eternal truth and justice wield the scepter in your hand. 4 Since you were sinless found, the Lord, by you confessed, anointed you with perfect joy— you are supremely blessed. Your garments breathe of myrrh and spices sweet and rare; glad strains of heav'nly music ring throughout your palace fair. 5 Amid your glorious train kings' daughters waiting stand, and fairest gems bedeck your bride, the queen at your right hand. O royal bride, give heed, and to my words attend; for Christ, the King, forsake the world and ev'ry former friend. My heart inditing is

Meter: 6.6.8.6 Appears in 6 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 45 Lyrics: 1 My heart inditing is good matter in a song: I speak the things that I have made, which to the King belong: my tongue shall be as quick, his honour to indite, as is the pen of any scribe that useth fast to write. 2 Thou fairer art than men; grace in thy lips doth flow: and therefore blessings evermore on thee doth God bestow. 3 Thy sword gird on thy thigh, thou that art most of might: appear in dreadful majesty, and in thy glory bright. 4 For meekness, truth, and right, ride prosperously in state; and thy right hand shall teach to thee things terrible and great. 5 Thy shafts shall pierce their hearts that foes are to the King; whereby into subjection thou the people down shalt bring. 6 Thy royal seat, O Lord, for ever shall remain: the sceptre of thy kingdom doth all righteousness maintain. 7 Thou lovest right, hat’st ill; hence God, thy God, even he above thy fellows hath with oil of joy anointed thee. 8 Of myrrh and spices sweet a smell thy garments had, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they made thee glad. 9 And in thy glorious train kings’ daughters waiting stand; and thy fair queen in Ophir gold doth stand at thy right hand. 10 O daughter, take good heed, incline, and give good ear; thou must forget thy kindred all, and father’s house most dear. 11 Thy beauty to the King shall then desired be; and do thou humbly worship him, because thy Lord is he. 12 The daughter then of Tyre there with a gift shall be; and all the wealthy of the land shall make their suit to thee. 13 The daughter of the King all glorious is within; and with embroideries of gold her garments wrought have been. 14 She cometh to the King in robes with needle wrought; the virgins that do follow her shall unto thee be brought. 15 They shall be brought with joy, and mirth on every side, into the palace of the King, and there they shall abide. 16 And in thy fathers’ stead, thy children thou shalt take and in all places of the earth them noble princes make. 17 I will show forth thy name to generations all: therefore the people evermore to thee give praises shall. Used With Tune: ST MICHAEL (OLD 134TH)

My heart doth take in hand

Author: J. H. Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 45 Lyrics: 1 My heart doth take in hand some godly song to sing; The praise, that I shall shew therein pertaineth to the King. 2 My tongue shall be as quick, His honour to indite, As is the pen of a scribe, that useth fast to write. 3 O fairest of all men, thy lips with grace are pure; For God hath blessed thee with gifts for ever to endure. 4 About thee gird thy sword, O Prince of might elect; With honour, glory, and renown, thou art most richly deck'd. 5 Go forth with godly speed, with meekness, truth, and right; And thy right hand shall thee instruct in works of dreadful might. 6 Thy arrows sharp and keen their heart so sore shall sting, That they shall crouch and kneel to thee, yea, all thy foes, O King. 7 Thy royal seat, O Lord, for ever shall remain; Because the sceptre of thy realm doth righteousness maintain, 8 Because thou lov'dst the right, and didst the ill detest, Therefore hath God anointed thee with joy above the rest. 9 With myrrh and savours sweet thy cloaths are all bespread, When thou dost from thy palace pass, thereby to make thee glad. 10 Kings daughters do attend in fine and rich array; At thy right hand the Queen doth stand in gold and garments gay. The Second Part. 11 O daughter, take good heed, incline and give good ear; Thou must forget thy kindred all, thy father's house most dear: 12 Then shall the King desire thy beauty more and more; He is the Lord thy God, whom thou must worship and adore. 13 The daughters then of Tyre, with gifts fill rich to see, And all the wealthy of the land shall make their suit to thee. 14 The daughter of the King is glorious to behold; Within her closet she doth sit all deck'd in beaten gold. 15 In robes with needle wrought, and every pleasant thing, With virgins fair on her to wait she cometh to the King. 16 Thus are they brought with joy and mirth on every side, Into the palace of the King, and there they do abide. 17 Instead of fathers thou shalt children multiply, Whom thou may'st princes make, to rule all lands successively. 18 Wherefore thy holy name all ages shall record, The people shall give thanks to thee for evermore, O Lord.
