Blessed Jesus, here we stand

Author: Schmolck Hymnal: Chorale Book for England, The #90 (1863) Hymnal Title: Chorale Book for England, The Lyrics: Blessed Jesus, here we stand, Met to do as Thou hast spoken, And this child at Thy command Now we bring to Thee, in token That to Christ it here is given, For of such shall be His Heaven. Yes, Thy warning voice is plain, And we fain would keep it duly, "He who is not born again, Heart and life renewing truly, Born of water and the Spirit, Will My kingdom ne'er inherit." Therefore hasten we to Thee, Take the pledge we bring, oh take it! Let us here Thy glory see, And in tender pity make it Now Thy child, and leave it never-- Thine on earth, and Thine for ever. Turn the darkness into light, To Thy grace receive and save it; Heal the serpent's venom'd bite, In the font where now we lave it; Let Thy Spirit pure and lowly Banish thought or taint unholy. Make it, Head, Thy member now, Shepherd, take Thy lamb and feed it, Prince of Peace, its peace be Thou, Way of life, to Heaven oh lead it, Vine, this branch may nothing sever, Grafted firm in Thee for ever. Now upon Thy heart it lies, What our hearts so dearly treasure, Heavenward lead our burden'd sighs, Pour Thy blessing without measure, Write the name we now have given, Write it in the book of Heaven. Hymnal: Christian Hymns #184 (1898) Meter: 7.8.7.8.8.8 Hymnal Title: Christian Hymns Lyrics: 1 Blessed Jesus, here we stand, Met to do as Thou hast spoken; And this child, at Thy command, Now we bring to Thee, in token That to Thee it here is given; For of such shall be Thy heaven. 2 Yea, Thy warning voice is plain, And with solemn awe we hear it: "He who is not born again, Of the water and the Spirit, In thy fold no place is given, And shall not inherit heaven." 3 Therefore hasten we to Thee; Take the pledge we bring, O take it! Let us here Thy glory see, And in tender pity make it Now Thy child, and leave it never, Thine of earth and Thine forever. 4 Make it, Christ, Thy member now; Shepherd, take Thy lamb, and feed it; Prince of peace, its peace be Thou; Way of life, to heaven lead it; Vine, this branch may nothing sever, Be it graft in Thee forever. 5 Now upon Thy heart it lies, What our hearts so dearly treasure: Heavenward lead our burdened sighs, Pour Thy blessing without measure; Write the name we now have given, Write it in the book of heaven. Dearest Jesus, We Are Here

Author: Benjamin Schmolck, 1672-1737; Catherine Winkworth, 1827-78 Hymnal: Christian Worship (1993) #295 (1993) Meter: 7.8.7.8.8.8 Hymnal Title: Christian Worship (1993) Lyrics: 1 Dearest Jesus, we are here, Gladly your command obeying; With this child we now draw near In response to your own saying That to you it shall be given As a child and heir of heaven. 2 Lord, your Word is clear and plain, And we will obey it duly: "He who is not born again, Heart and life renewing truly, Born of water and the Spirit, Can my kingdom not inherit." 3 Therefore we have come to you, In our arms this infant bearing. Here we shall forgiveness view. May this child, your mercy sharing, In your arms be shielded ever, Yours on earth and yours forever. 4 Gracious Head, your member own; Shepherd, take your lamb and feed it; Prince of Peace, make here your throne; Way of life, to heaven lead it. Precious Vine, let nothing sever From your side this branch forever. 5 Now into your heart we pour Prayers that from our hearts proceeded. Our petitions heav'nward soar; May our warm desires be heeded! Write the name we now have given; Write it in the book of heaven!
