Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me

Author: Augustus M. Toplady, 1740-78 Hymnal: Lutheran Service Book #761 (2006) Meter: 7.7.7.7.7.7 Scripture: Hebrews 9:14 Lyrics: 1 Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee; Let the water and the blood, From Thy riven side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure: Cleanse me from its guilt and pow'r. 2 Not the labors of my hands Can fulfill Thy Law's demands; Could my zeal no respite know, Could my tears forever flow, All for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone. 3 Nothing in my hand I bring; Simply to Thy cross I cling. Naked, come to Thee for dress; Helpless, look to Thee for grace; Foul, I to the fountain fly; Wash me, Savior, or I die! 4 While I draw this fleeting breath, When mine eyelids close in death, When I soar to worlds unknown, See Thee on Thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee. There Is a Fountain Filled with Blood

Author: William Cowper, 1731-1800 Hymnal: Worship and Rejoice #256 (2003) Meter: 8.6.8.6.6.6.8.6 Scripture: Hebrews 9:22 Lyrics: 1 There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel's veins, and sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains: lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains; and sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains. 2 The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day, and there may I, though vile as he, wash all my sins away: wash all my sins away, wash all my sins away; and there may I, though vile as he, wash all my sins away. 3 Dear dying Lamb, thy precious blood shall never lose its power, till all the ransomed Church of God be saved, to sin no more: be saved, to sin no more, be saved, to sin no more; till all the ransomed Church of God be saved, to sin no more. 4 E'er since by faith I saw the stream thy flowing wounds supply, redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die: and shall be till I die, and shall be till I die; redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die. 5 When this poor lisping, stammering tongue lies silent in the grave, then in a nobler, sweeter song I'll sing thy power to save: I'll sing thy power to save, I'll sing thy power to save; then in a nobler, sweeter song I'll sing thy power to save. Alas! And Did My Savior Bleed

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Glory to God #212 (2013) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Scripture: Hebrews 9:12-16 Lyrics: 1 Alas! And did my Savior bleed, and did my Sovereign die! Would he devote that sacred head for sinners such as I! 2 Was it for sins that I have done he suffered on the tree? Amazing pity! Grace unknown! And love beyond degree! 3 Well might the sun in darkness hide and shut its glories in, when Christ, the great Redeemer, died for human creatures' sin. 4 But drops of grief can ne'er repay the debt of love I owe; here, Lord, I give myself away; 'tis all that I can do. Author: John Newton Hymnal: Trinity Psalter Hymnal #152 (2018) Meter: 7.7.7.7.7.7 Scripture: Hebrews 9:9-10 Lyrics: 1 Safely through another week God has brought us on our way; let us now a blessing seek, waiting in his courts today; day of all the week the best, emblem of eternal rest. 2 While we pray for pard'ning grace through the dear Redeemer's name, show thy reconciled face; take away our sin and shame; from our earthly cares set free, may we rest this day in thee. 3 Here we come thy name to praise; let us feel thy presence near; may thy glory meet our eyes while we in thy house appear; here afford us, Lord, a taste of our everlasting feast. 4 May thy gospel's joyful sound conquer sinners, comfort saints; may the fruits of grace abound, bring relief for all complaints; thus may all our Sabbaths prove, 'til we join the church above. There's a wideness in God's mercy

Author: Frederick William Faber (1814-1863) Hymnal: Ancient and Modern #806 (2013) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Scripture: Hebrews 9:11-14 Lyrics: 1 There's a wideness in God's mercy like the wideness of the sea; there's a kindness in his justice which is more than liberty. There is no place where earth's sorrows are more felt than up in heaven; there is no place where earth's failings have such kindly judgement given. 2 For the love of God is broader than the measure of our mind, and the heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind. But we make his love too narrow by false limits of our own; and we magnify his strictness with a zeal he would not own. 3 There is plentiful redemption through the blood that has been shed; there is joy for all the members in the sorrows of the Head. There is grace enough for thousands of new worlds as great as this; there is room for fresh creations in that upper home of bliss. 4 If our love were but more simple, we should take him at his word; and our lives would be all gladness in the joy of Christ our Lord. The Church's One Foundation

Author: Samuel J. Stone Hymnal: Hymns of Faith #77 (1980) Scripture: Hebrews 9:28 Lyrics: 1 The Church’s one foundation Is Jesus Christ her Lord; She is His new creation By water and the word; From heav'n He came and sought her To be His holy bride; With His own blood He bought her And for her life He died. 2 Elect from every nation, Yet one o’er all the earth, Her charter of salvation One Lord, one faith, one birth; One holy name she blesses, Partakes one holy food, And to one hope she presses, With every grace endued. 3 Though with a scornful wonder Men see her sore oppressed, By schisms rent asunder, By heresies distressed; Yet saints their watch are keeping, Their cry goes up, “How long?” And soon the night of weeping Shall be the morn of song. 4 'Mid toil and tribulation, And tumult of her war, She waits the consummation Of peace forevermore; Till with the vision glorious Her longing eyes are blest, And the great Church victorious Shall be the Church at rest. 5 Yet she on earth hath union With God, the Three in One, And mystic sweet communion With those whose rest is won: O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we, Like them, the meek and lowly, On high may dwell with Thee. Amen. O Day of Rest and Gladness

Author: Christopher Wordsworth Hymnal: Trinity Psalter Hymnal #153 (2018) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Scripture: Hebrews 9:9-10 Lyrics: 1 O day of rest and gladness, O day of joy and light, O balm of care and sadness, most beautiful, most bright; on thee the high and lowly through ages joined in tune, sing "Holy, holy, holy" to the great God Triune. 2 On thee, at the creation, the light first had its birth; on thee, for our salvation, Christ rose from depths of earth; on thee, our Lord victorious, the Spirit sent from heav'n; and thus on thee, most glorious, a triple light was giv'n. 3 Today on weary nations the heav'nly manna falls; to holy convocations the silver trumpet calls, where gospel light is glowing with pure and radiant beams, and living water flowing with soul refreshing streams. 4 New graces ever gaining from this our day of rest, we reach the rest remaining to spirits of the blest. To Holy Ghost be praises, to Father, and to Son; the church her voice upraises to thee, blest Three in One. Topics: Lord's Day; Rest; Trinity Languages: English Tune Title: MENDEBRAS

Crown him with many crowns
