My grateful soul shall bless the Lord

Hymnal: Hymnal #95 (1871) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Lyrics: 1 My grateful soul shall bless the Lord, Whose precepts give me light; And private counsel still afford In sorrow's dismal night. 2 Therefore my heart all grief defies, My glory does rejoice; My flesh shall rest, in hope to rise, Waked by His powerful voice. 3 Thou, Lord, when I resign my breath, My soul from hell shalt free; Nor let Thy Holy One in death The least corruption see. 4 Thou shalt the paths of life display Which to Thy presence lead; Where pleasures dwell without allay, And joys that never fade. Amen. Topics: Easter Even Languages: English

My Soul with grateful Thoughts of Love

Hymnal: The Psalms of David #CXVI (1767) Lyrics: 1 My Soul, with grateful Thoughts of Love, Entirely is possess'd; Because the LORD vouchsaf'd to hear, The Voice of my Request. 2 Since he has now his Ear inclin'd, I never will despair; But still in all the Straits of Life, To him address my Pray'r. 3 With deadly Sorrows compass'd round, With Pains of Hell oppress'd; When Troubles seiz'd my aking Heart, And Anguish rack'd my Breast: 4 On GOD's almighty Name I call'd, And thus to him I pray'd; "LORD, I beseech thee, save my Soul, "With Sorrow quite dismay'd!" 5 How just and merciful is GOD! How gracious is the LORD! Who saves the Harmless, and to me Does timely Help afford. 6 Then, free from pensive Cares, my Soul, Resume thy wonted Rest; For GOD has wondrously to thee His bounteous Love exprest. 7 When Death alarm'd me, he remov'd My Dangers and my Fears; My Feet from falling he secur'd, And dry'd my Eyes from Tears. 8 Therefore my Life's remaining Years, which GOD to me shall lend, Will I, in Praise to his Name, And in his Service spend. 9 I did believe, and therefore spoke, Great my Afflictions were: And in my Haste I rashly said, That all Men Liars are. 10 Oh, what Return to him, shall I For all his Goodness make? I'll praise his Name, and with glad Zeal The Cup of Blessing take. 11 I'll pay my Vows now to the LORD, With most sincere Delight. The LORD preserves his Saints, their Death Is precious in his Sight. 12 Truely I am thy Servant, LORD; To serve thee, is my Choice; Thine Handmaid's Son, my Bonds thou loos'd, And made me to rejoice. 13 To thee I'll Off'rings bring of Praise; And whilst I bless thy Name, The just Performance of my Vows To all thy Saints proclaim. 14 They in Jerusalem shall meet, And in thy House shall join, To bless thy Name with one Consent, and mix their Songs with mine. Topics: Soul's Desire Of Believers; Thanksgivings For Deliverances and Wonders, particular Scripture: Psalm 116 Languages: English Tune Title: [My Soul with grateful Thoughts of Love]

Look Back, My Soul, With Grateful Love

Author: Philip Doddridge, 1702-1751 Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #12585 Meter: 8.6.8.6 Lyrics: 1 Look back, my soul, with grateful love On what thy God has done; Praise Him for His unnumbered gifts, And praise Him for His Son. 2 How oft has His indulgent hand My flowing eyelids dried, And rescued from impending death, When I in danger cried! 3 When on the bed of pain I lay With sickness sore oppressed, How oft has He assuaged my grief, And lulled my eyes to rest! 4 Back from destruction’s yawning pit At His command I came; He fed th’expiring lamp anew, And raised its feeble flame. 5 My broken spirit He has cheered, When torn with inward grief; And, when temptations pressed me sore, Has brought me swift relief. 6 My soul from everlasting death Is by His mercy brought, To tell in Zion’s sacred gates The wonders He has wrought. 7 Still will I walk before His face, While He this life prolongs; Till grace shall all its work complete, And teach me heav’nly songs. My Soul, with grateful Thoughts of Love

Hymnal: A New Version of the Psalms of David #CXVI (1760) Lyrics: 1 My Soul, with grateful Thoughts of Love entirely is possest Because the Lord vouchsaf'd to hear the Voice of my Request. 2 Since He has now his Ear inclin'd, I never will despair; But still in all the Straits of Life to Him address my Pray'r. 3 With deadly Sorrows compass'd round, with Pains of hell oppress'd; When Troubles seiz'd my aking Heart, and Anguish rack'd my Breast: 4 On God's almighty Name I call'd, and thus to Him I pray'd; "Lord, I beseech Thee, save my Soul, "with Sorrows quite dismay'd; 5,6 How just and merciful is God, how gracious is the Lord! Who saves the Harmless, and to me does timely Help afford. 7 Then free from pensive Cares, my Soul resume thy wonted Rest; For God has wond'rously to thee his bounteous Love exprest. 8 When Death alarm'd me, He remov'd my Dangers and my Fears; My Feet from falling He secur'd, and dry'd my Eyes from Tears. 9 Therefore my Life's remaining Years, which God to me shall lend, Will I in Praise to his Name, and in his Service spend. 10,11 In God I trusted, and of Him in greatest Straits did boast; (For in my Flight all Hopes of Aid from faithless Men were lost:) 12,13 Then what Return to him shall I for all his Goodness make? I'll praise his Name, and with glad Zeal the Cup of Blessing take. 14,15 I'll pay my Vows amongst his Saints, whose Blood (how'er despis'd By wicked Men) in God's Account is always highly priz'd: 16 By various Ties, O Lord, must I to thy Dominion bow; Thy humble Handmaid's Son before, thy ransom'd Captive now! 17,18 To Thee I'll Off'rings bring of Praise; and whilst I bless thy Name, The just Performance of my Vows to all thy Saints proclaim. 19 They in Jerusalem shall meet, and in thy House shall join, To bless thy Name with one Consent, and mix their Songs with mine.
