Thomas Emerson Bond The hymn was written by Dr. Thomas E. Bond, an excellent Methodist Episcopal clergyman. The hymn is simply an extract from a long poem prepared by its author some years ago for a periodical published in Baltimore. This worthy man, having passed the age of three-score and ten, did in March, 1856. Many of his latter years were devoted to the service of his denomination by the agency of the press, being an editor of one of there newspapers.
