[1] I know of a river which glorious stream
Flows tranquil and calm on its way;
It sparkles and glistens, this river supreme:
Who knows of its waters today?

Refrain: O come to this glorious stream,
And seek there your soul to redeem!
Its water flows free, your soul to renew;
Believe it is flowing for you.

[2] Wherever this river may wind in its course,
There joyful and happy the hearts.
Whoever partakes of this live-giving source
Finds peace and all unrest departs. [Refrain]

[3] This river is deep and its water is clear;
Refreshing it flows, and serene.
It healeth the sick and deliv'reth from fear,
Yes, even the vilest makes clean [Refrain]

[4] The water of life bubbles forth in this flood;
Thro' Yahshua it flows ever new.
His precious and sacred, most sanctified blood,
O sinner, He shed all for you. [Refrain]

[5] Whoever is thirsty may drink here at will:
"O come," say the Spirit and bride;
For those who have wash'd and here drank to their fill
Forever with Yahweh abide. [Refrain]

CODNER, Elizabeth (née Harris) was born in Dartmouth, Devon in 1823. Croydon, Surrey, 28 March 1919. She was interested in the mission field from an early age, and two of her early publications were entitled The Missionary Ship (1853) and The Missionary Farewell (1854) relating to the Patagonia Mission (later the South American Missionary Society). She married William Pennefather at the Mildmay Protestant Mission in London, and edited the mission’s monthly Woman’s Work in the Great Harvest Field. At age 17, she was editing a magazine for the Patagonia Mission, later the South American Missionary Society. She died in Croydon, Surrey on 28 March 1919. NN, Hymnary Go to person page >
