John, a minister, was the son of James Baldwin Foote and Mary E. Harper, and husband of Janet Ann Macindoe. He and his brother J. W. were evangelists based in Chicago, Illinois, in the 1890s. In their early years, they were associated with the Presbyterian church in Salina, Iowa. John’s obituary states he spent about 10 years in evangelistic work.
