Lay thou not up thy treasure

Representative Text

1 Lay thou not up thy treasure here,
Where grief and loss may come;
Rather in Heaven gather them,
Thy bright eternal home.

Chorus:
Treasures in Heaven,
There no loss shall come;
Treasures in Heaven,
Thine eternal home;
Guarded and kept for thee secure,
No loss shalt thou suffer,
The promise is sure.

2 Rich art thou now in lands of gold,
In jewels gleaming fair;
Soon thou shalt pass the river cold,
Where these thou canst not bear. [Chorus]

3 Few are the years thou shalt know here,
And soon will numbered be
Treasures like these to that far shore,
Thou mayst not bear with thee. [Chorus]

4 Poor wilt thou be if these are all
The treasures thou hast won;
Empty thy hands on that great day,
Thy lifework all undone. [Chorus]

5 Live thou for Christ and not for self,
In others sorrows share;
All of thy deeds of love and faith
Shall count for treasure there. [Chorus]
