An Evening Hymn

Lord, what is gold, compared with thee

Published in 1 hymnal

Representative Text

1 Lord, what is gold, compar'd with thee
Or silver to thy majesty?
Or what are pearls of richest price;
Compar'd with God, th' eternal wise?

2 Lord, when I view this world below,
With all the wealth it's proud to shew,
I'm weary'd with the tir'some sight:
Lord take me to thyself this night.

3 But, Lord, if it still pleaseth thee,
That many days I here shall see,
May I, resign'd without a word,
Wait for the coming of my Lord.

4 And while I tarry here below,
May all the christian graces grow:
And when I'm call'd to hear death's voice;
Then may I bless thee, and rejoice.

5 Then may thine angels Lord convey
My soul up to the realms of joy,
Where hallelujahs I shall sing,
And bless and praise my heavenly king.

6 Then shall I join that heavn'ly throng,
And praise the Lord with endless song;
Then I releas'd from sin and death,
Shall praise the Lord with endless breath.
