Hymnary Friends,

Please pardon this brief interruption, and please consider a gift today to support the work of Hymnary.org. Here's why.

Each month half a million people visit this website for free access to the most complete database of North American hymnody on the planet. But this project does not come without a cost, and we have limited sources of revenue. Twice a year we hold a fund drive, and these drives are critical to our future.

So if you benefit from Hymnary.org, would you consider a donation today? Even small amounts help, and they also let us know you're behind us and support what we do.

Click the Donate button below to be taken to a secure giving site. Or you can make your tax-deductible contribution by sending a check to Hymnary.org at 3201 Burton SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.

On behalf of the entire Hymnary.org team, our thanks.

Representative Text

1 Milde Jesus, her vi staa
Og vor Tak og Pris dig bære,
At du naadig til os saa,
Vilde kjærlig hos os være,
Vilde dig en Vingaard hegne
Her i Vestens fjerne Egne!

2 Ak, dit søde Livsens Ord
Lyder ikke allevegne;
Endnu mangensteds paa Jord
Er der mørke, golde Egne,
Hvor dit Navn man ikke kjender,
Hvor dit Kirke-Lys ei brænder.

3 Medens vi dig takke her,
Vil vi for dit Ansigt tænke
Paa de mange Hjerter, der
Under Dødens tunge Lænke,
Bede, du vil bud dem sende,
At de maa den Frelse kjende.

4 Herre, alt vort haab er du!
Kom, velsign vort Kirkemøde!
Lad vor Gjerning lykkes os
Krafte væk til Liv det Døde
Kom, velsign os Allesammen!
Milde Jesu hør os! Amen.

Wexels, Wilhelm Andreas. (Copenhagen, Denmark, March 29, 1797--May 14, 1866, Oslo, Norway). Lutheran. After studies in Copenhagen and Christiana (Oslo), became catechist and curate of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Christiana. Preached against the inroads of rationalism, emphasizing the need for spiritual revival. Church historians claim that his ministry was the turning point in the Church of Norway. Failed in his attempt to give Norway a hymnal, but many of his hymns survived. --J. Irving Erickson, DNAH Archives Go to person page >
