We don't often ask for money. Just twice a year. This is one of those times.

So, please, before you hit the "close" button on this box, would you consider a donation to keep Hymnary.org going?

In April 2020, according to Google Analytics, our Hymnary website had roughly 1.5 million sessions from approximately 1 million users. Both numbers were up 40% from April 2019. Amazing. And what a blessing! But it is expensive to serve all of these people -- worship leaders, hymnologists, hymn lovers and more -- people like you who love hymns.

And we have limited sources of revenue. This fund drive is one critical source.

So if you benefit from Hymnary.org, would you please consider a donation today? Even small amounts help, and they also let us know you're behind us and support what we do.

You can make your tax-deductible contribution by sending a check to Hymnary.org at 3201 Burton SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, or you can click the Donate button below.

Nu rinder solen op

Representative Text

1 Nu rinder Solen op
Af Østerlide
Forgylder Klippens Top
Og Bjergets Side!
Vær glad, min Sjæl, og lad din Stemme klinge,
Stig op fra Jordens Bo,
Og dig med Tak og Tro
Til Himlen svinge!

2 Utallig, saa som Sand,
Og uden Maade
Som Havets dybe Vand,
Er Herrens Naade,
Som han mit Hoved daglig overgyder,
Hver Morgen i min Skaal
En Naade uden Maal
Til mig nedflyder.

3 Han har i denne Nat
Med Engleskare
Mit Hus og Hjem omsat,
At ingen Fare
Har rammet mig og Mine nogen Maade,
Men jeg er frelst og fri
Fra Dødsens mørke Sti
Og Sjæle-Vaade.

4 Min Sjæl, vær frisk og glad,
Lad Sorgen fare!
Dit Legems Blomsterblad
Skal Gud bevare,
Han skal idag mig give Kraft og Styrke,
Jeg i mit Kald og Stand
Min Gud og Fader kan
Tilbørlig dyrke.

5 Gud lægge Haand i Haand
Med mig og give
Sin Gode Helligaand,
Mit Kald at drive!

O Herre kjender,
Tilmed er Lykkens Gang
I dine Hænder,
Og hvad mig tjener bdest i hver en Maade,
Det du tilforne ser,
Min Sjæl, hvad vil du mer?
Lad Gud kun raade!

Thomas Hansen Kingo (15 December 1634 – 14 October 1703 Odense) was a Danish bishop, poet and hymn-writer born at Slangerup, near Copenhagen. His work marked the high point of Danish baroque poetry. He belonged to a rather poor family partly of Scottish origin and was educated a clergyman. In his youth, Kingo wrote a series of poems picturing humorous scenes in village life and a pastoral love poem, Chrysillis. He studied theology at the University of Copenhagen, graduating in 1654, and for some time acted as private tutor. In 1661 he was appointed vicar to the pastor at Kirke Helsinge, and in 1668 he was ordained a minister at his native town, where his poetic activity began.
