Hymnary Friends,

Please pardon this brief interruption, and please consider a gift today to support the work of Hymnary.org. Here's why.

Each month half a million people visit this website for free access to the most complete database of North American hymnody on the planet. But this project does not come without a cost, and we have limited sources of revenue. Twice a year we hold a fund drive, and these drives are critical to our future.

So if you benefit from Hymnary.org, would you consider a donation today? Even small amounts help, and they also let us know you're behind us and support what we do.

Click the Donate button below to be taken to a secure giving site. Or you can make your tax-deductible contribution by sending a check to Hymnary.org at 3201 Burton SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.

On behalf of the entire Hymnary.org team, our thanks.

1 O Syndere, betænker
Dog hvilken farlig Sag
At gaa i Satans Lænker
Saa mange Aar og Dag'!
Legynder Aaret ei,
Før I ved Herrens Naade
Har ladet eder raade,
At gaa paa Livsens Vei!

2 Med ret omskaarne Hjerter
O løber Gud i Favn
Med dybe Angers Smerter
I Jesu Kristi Navn!
Saa skal det ogsaa ske,
Gud lader sig formilde,
At I hans Naades Kilde
I dette Aar skal se.

3 Jeg er i Længsels Smerte
Og Tusinde med mig,
Som vil af ganske Hjerte
I Troen favne dig;
Naar jeg dig have maa,
Hvad vil jeg mer bejære?
Jeg kan jo ikke mere
End alt i Jesus saa.

4 Lad alle Kristnes Mening
Derudi festet staa,
At de i din Forening
Til Døden blive maa;
At de i ingen Nød
Sig lader fra dig drage,
Men trøstig Korset tage
For din den bitre Død.

5 Saa ville vi dig prise
Vor hele Levnets Tid,
Og engang Takken vise
Med større Kraft og Flid,
Naar vi vor Jesus faar
At se med alle Fromme
Og kunne med dem komme
Til Evigheds Nyaar.

In 1684 he was appointed cantor and director of the music at the cathedral church at Bremen. He died at Bremen, May 29, 1722 (Koch, iv. 281; Rotermund's continuation of Jöcher's Gelehrten-Lexicon, iii. 1405, &c). Laurenti was one of the best hymn-writers of the Pietistic school. His hymns are founded on the Gospels for Sundays and Festivals, and they draw out the bearing on the Christian life of the leading thoughts therein contained.
