Representative Text

1 O think of the crosses that Christ hath endured,
The blessings that he for his bride hath procured;
In his sweet example O pray let us come,
Each bearing his cross as dear Jesus hath done.

2 A king of all kings, yet behold at his birth,
He shows that his kingdom is not of this earth;
In his sweet example O pray let us come,
Each bearing the cross as dear Jesus hath done.

3 How meek, and how quiet on earth he has been,
A love of God and a hater of sin,
In his sweet example O pray let us come,
Each bearing the cross as dear Jesus hath done.

4 He pitied the hungry and fed them with bread,
He wept with the Maidens whose brother was dead;
In his sweet example O pray let us come,
Each bearing the cross as dear Jesus hath done.

5 He pitied poor sinners and wept over them,
Note the tears that he shed o'er Jerusalem;
In his sweet example O pray let us come,
Each bearing the cross as dear Jesus hath done.

6 Now Jesus in Jordan we find was baptis'd,
And praying, the heaven's were open'd likewise,
In his sweet example O pray let us come,
Each bearing the cross as dear Jesus hath done.

7 With his dying breath to his Father he cries,
O Father forgive those my worst enemies;
In his sweet example O pray let us come,
Each bearing the cross as dear Jesus hath done.
