Representative Text

1. On where the cross is leading,
Under the glorious banner go;
Marching in phalanx brave and strong,
We fear not to meet the foe.

Refrain
On, on, united in His love!
On, on, to joy and peace above;
Marching together, loyal forever,
Jesus is leading—on for the King!

2. Closer around us thronging
Gather the mighty hosts of sin;
Yet, while our great commander leads,
We’ll fight, and the triumph win. [Refrain]

3. On where the cross is leading!
Fear not, tho’ marching days be long;
Ours is the battle, His the triumph,
Ours be the victor’s song. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
