Where clouds of darkness veil the sunny sky,
I’ll trust the tender Savior, holding close his nail-pierced hand,
He keeps me “as the apple of his eye.”

Upon my blessed Lord I can rely;

2 He goeth on before me, every step he truly knows,
This Friend of mine on whom I can rely;
“Fear not!” he softly whispers on the mountains bleak and cold,
“I’ll keep you ‘as the apple of my eye.’” [Refrain]

3 The glories of his heaven, and the songs of angels bright,
Will never cause his blessed love to die;

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
