We don't often ask for money. Just twice a year. This is one of those times.

So, please, before you hit the "close" button on this box, would you consider a donation to keep Hymnary.org going?

In April 2020, according to Google Analytics, our Hymnary website had roughly 1.5 million sessions from approximately 1 million users. Both numbers were up 40% from April 2019. Amazing. And what a blessing! But it is expensive to serve all of these people -- worship leaders, hymnologists, hymn lovers and more -- people like you who love hymns.

And we have limited sources of revenue. This fund drive is one critical source.

So if you benefit from Hymnary.org, would you please consider a donation today? Even small amounts help, and they also let us know you're behind us and support what we do.

You can make your tax-deductible contribution by sending a check to Hymnary.org at 3201 Burton SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, or you can click the Donate button below.

1 Vor Gud er idel Kjærlighed;
I hannem vil jeg blive,
Jeg og i hannem bliver ved,
I mig vil han og give
Fuld Tro og Trøst,
Basunens Røst
Den gjør mig ei forstrækket
Paa Dommedag,
Fordi min Sag
Er alt med Naade dækket.

2 Jeg vil Gud elske inderlig,
Og vil for intet frygte,
Og ei med Sorgen pine mig,
Om mig al Verden trykte.
Op, Sjæl, og bed,
At Kjærlighed
Til Gud i dig kan brænde,
Og at du saa
Din næste maa
Al Gunst og Godt tilvende!

3 Thi hvo, som siger dette, at
Han elsker Gud af Hjerte,
Og har sin Broder dog forladt
I Armod, Rød og Smerte,
Han lyver slemt,
Og har forglemt,
At Gud han elskes ikke,
Hvor Arme maa
Utrøsted' gaa
Sin' Øines Graad at drikke.

4 O Gud, din Kjærlighed optænd
Og lad din Aand det gjøre,
Og kraftig Naade til mig send,
Jeg saa mit Liv kan føre,
At naar jeg maa
Til Graven gaa,
Jeg dør da til mit Bedste
I Hjertens Fred
Og Kjærlighed
Til dig og til min Næste.

He studied theology at the University of Copenhagen, graduating in 1654, and for some time acted as private tutor. In 1661 he was appointed vicar to the pastor at Kirke Helsinge, and in 1668 he was ordained a minister at his native town, where his poetic activity began.
