Representative Text

1 We have known each other here,
‘Mid our smiles or falling tear,
We have walked together o’er life’s weary mile;
But when misty days are gone,
In that sunlit, rosy dawn
We shall know each other better over yonder.

Refrain:
We shall know each other better over yonder,
We shall know each other better over yonder;
Where our hopes shall be fullfilled
And the voice of sorrow stilled,
We shall know each other better over yonder.

2 We have been misunderstood
When we’ve done the best we could,
Others could not see the motives of our hearts;
And the smiles we often see
Hide the tears that would be free,—
We shall know each other better over yonder. [Refrain]

3 Here the clouds are often seen,
Here the shadows intervene,
But the skies are always sunny over there;
All that mystified us here
In the morning shall be clear,
We shall know each other better over yonder. [Refrain]

4 I have known a friend so dear
Who has walked beside me here,
And our fellowship has been divinely sweet;
But thro’ all the passing days
I have longed to see His face,
We shall know each other better over yonder. [Refrain]
