1 We light the candle of hope
for all who mourn and cry,
and pray they will be comforted
when Christ again comes nigh.
Maranatha, bring us hope, come to us, we pray.

Second Sunday in Advent:
2 We light the candle of peace
for all who fight in fear,
and pray they will be reconciled
when Christ again draws near.
Maranatha, bring us peace, come to us, we pray.

Third Sunday in Advent:
3 We light the candle of joy
for all who suffer pain,
and pray they will be healed and whole
when Christ comes once again.
Maranatha, bring us joy, come to us, we pray.

Fourth Sunday in Advent:
4 We light the candle of love
for all who walk alone,
and pray they will find welcome here
when Christ once more is known.
Maranatha, bring us love, come to us, we pray.

Christmas Eve:
5 We light the candle of Christ,
eternal, true, and bright,
and pray the Savior finds a home
within each heart tonight
Maranatha, come to us, come to us, we pray.

Augsburg Fortress also published Sing the Stories of God’s NEW People, the third in a trilogy of Bible story-based collections of songs for young children, written with her longtime colleague, John D.
