Peace Be Still

When on the wild tumultuous sea

Author: Alexcenah Thomas
Tune: [When on the wild tumultuous sea]
Published in 1 hymnal

Audio files: MIDI

Representative Text

1 When on the wild tumultuous sea
The weary soul is tossed,
“Lord, save!” let thy petition be,
Ere thy frail bark is lost.

Refrain:
Peace, be still, peace, be still;
The winds and the waters obey Thy will;
Peace, be still, peace, be still;
O speak Thy peace to me.

2 What though the waves of deep despair
Encompass thee today?
“Lord, save!” still be thy earnest prayer;
His voice the winds obey. [Refrain]

3 How sweet and holy is the calm,
When to the troubled soul
His tender accents, “Peace, be still,”
Across the waters roll! [Refrain]
