131. The Beautiful City of Gold

1 In the beautiful home, in the land of the blest,
Which our Savior has gone to prepare;
There saints and bright angels enjoy perfect rest,
And God reigns eternally there;
There sickness nor sorrows nor death ever come,
The inhabitants never grow old;
They have nothing to fear in that beautiful home,
In that beautiful city of gold.

Chorus:
A tent or a cottage, oh, why should I care
What my dwelling place is here below?
They are building a palace for me over there,
In that beautiful city of gold.

2 That beautiful home is for you and for me,
And if faithful its joys we may share,
Sometimes when in visions its portals I see,
My soul longs to be over there.
Our Savior is waiting to welcome us home,
When our work is all finished below;
Then let us prepare when the message shall come,
To be ready and waiting to go. [Chorus]

3 Then come and go with us to fair Eden’s land,
There’s a welcome for all who will come;
God’s servants are calling on every hand,
O come to this beautiful home.
The friends who have gone to that land of the blest
Are inviting you, brother, to come,
To share in their bliss and enjoy perfect rest,
In that beautiful city of gold. [Chorus]
