139. The Happy Land

1 There’s a happy land o’er the river of death,
‘Tis the realm of eternal life;
There immortal flowers of joy never fade,
As they pale in this world of strife.

Refrain:
Happy land! blessed land over death’s surging stream!
Mortal never its bliss has told;
In the golden light of the morning so bright,
We its beauty shall soon behold.

2 In that happy land on the heavenly shore,
Is the home of the glorified,
There the saved who have gathered from every clime,
In God’s presence for aye abide. [Refrain]

3 To the happy land we are hastening on,
As we pass thro’ the vale of time;
One the sight of faith, even now from afar,
Breaks the vision of scenes sublime. [Refrain]

4 In that happy land we shall rest by and by,
From all weariness, pain and care,
And our Saviour’s praise thro’ eternity’s years,
Gladly sing with the ransomed there. [Refrain]
