134. Thy Sins Be Forgiven Thee

1 How sweet were the words of the Savior,
When, weary and sin-oppressed,
I came to him seeking salvation,—
Forgiveness, and peace, and rest.
So long I had waited and pleaded
No hope did there seem to be,
When, blessed the moment, he whispered,
“Thy sins be forgiven thee.”

“Thy sins be forgiv'n, thy sins be forgiv'n,
Thy sins be forgiven thee.”
O blessed the moment he whispered,
“Thy sins be forgiven thee.”

2 O words of all others the sweetest,
No song that the angels sing,
No music, however entrancing,
Such gladness and peace could bring.
O words of the tenderest pity,
That told me my soul was free,—
I'll never, no, never forget them,—
“Thy sins be forgiven thee.”

“Thy sins be forgiv'n, thy sins be forgiv'n,
Thy sins be forgiven thee.”
O blessed the moment he whispered,
“Thy sins be forgiven thee.”

3 Today in his sight I am walking,
No fears of his wrath molest;
No thought of the old condemnation
He suffers to mar my rest.
I'm trusting, whatever my feelings,
Whatever the tempter's plea,
For Jesus my Savior hath spoken,
“Thy sins be forgiven thee.”

“Thy sins be forgiv'n, thy sins be forgiv'n,
Thy sins be forgiven thee.”
O blessed the moment he whispered,
“Thy sins be forgiven thee.”

4 O lost one, come now to the Savior,
He suffered thy sins t'atone;
He waits to forgive thy transgressions,
He wants thee to be his own.
O come to him, freely confessing,
Though crimson thy stains may be,
And listen in faith for his blessing,
“Thy sins be forgiven thee.”

“Thy sins be forgiv'n, thy sins be forgiv'n,
The sins be forgiven thee.”
O, listen in faith for his blessing,
“Thy sins be forgiven thee.”
