124. O Thou who in the grave didst lay

1 O Thou who in the grave didst lay,
O sacred be to us this day,
For on this day our Lord arose
In glory from His death repose.

2 How did Thy humble flocks rejoice
When they saw Thee and heard Thy voice!
O Lord, may we, though on this earth,
Share with them all their peace and mirth!

3 O, Lord, Thou livest for us now;
Our Lord and Jesus Christ art Thou!
We know that Thou canst hear and see,
When we sing songs of praise to Thee!

4 And now in Spirit Thou dost call
From heaven to us one and all:
“May peace be with thee, child of mine,
For heaven’s kingdom shall be thine.”

5 Lest we forget Thy name we ask
That pleasure be to us our task.
Thou livest for us now and we
Have faith to end our days in Thee.

6 Thy Spirit’s seal, O Lord, we pray
Renew and strengthen in each day!
And through Thy love so pure and kind,
Draw up to heaven heart and mind.

7 Thy Spirit animate each heart;
God’s holy love to us impart.
Give us Thy likeness, pure and fair;
For heaven’s kingdom us prepare!

8 May, Lord, Thy holy love to us
Keep our hearts true and virtuous.
Thou image of the Father dear,
Make us like Thee, so pure and clear!
