If thou but suffer God to guide thee

Appears in 184 hymnals Lyrics: 1 If thou but suffer God to guide thee, And hope in Him through all thy ways, He'll give thee strength whate'er betide thee, And bear thee through the evil days. Who trusts in God's unchanging love Builds on the Rock that cannot move. 2 Only be still, and wait His leisure In cheerful hope with heart content To take whate'er thy Father's pleasure And all-deserving love hath sent; Nor doubt our inmost wants are known To Him who chose us for His own. 3 Sing, pray, and keep His ways unswerving; So do thine own part faithfully, And trust His word; though undeserving, Thou yet shalt find it true for thee: God never yet forsook at need The soul that trusted Him indeed. Amen. Used With Tune: ELBE

Jesus, Thy boundless Love to me

Author: Paul Gerhardt; John Wesley Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 353 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Jesus, Thy boundless Love to me No thought can reach, no tongue declare; Unite my thankful heart to Thee, And reign without a rival there. Thine wholly, Thine alone I am; Be Thou alone my constant flame. 2 O Love, how cheering is Thy ray! All pain before Thy presence flies: Care, anguish, sorrow, melt away, Where'er Thy healing beams arise: O Jesus, nothing may I see, Nothing desire or seek but Thee! 3 Unwearied, may I this pursue, Dauntless to the high prize aspire; Hourly within my soul renew This holy flame, this heavenly fire; And day and night be all my care To guard this sacred treasure there! Baptized into Your Name Most Holy

Author: Johann J. Rambach, 1693-1735; Catherine Winkworth, 1827-78 Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Appears in 45 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Baptized into your name most holy, O Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, I claim a place, though weak and lowly, Among your saints, your chosen host, Buried with Christ and dead to sin. Your Spirit now shall live within. 2 My loving Father, there you took me To be henceforth your child and heir. My faithful Savior, there you let me The fruit of all your sorrows share. O Holy Spirit, comfort me When threat'ning clouds around I see. 3 My faithful God, you fail me never; Your promise surely will endure. Oh, cast me not away forever If words and deeds become impure. Have mercy when I come defiled; Forgive, lift up, restore your child. 4 All that I am and love most dearly - Receive it all, O Lord, from me. Let me confess my faith sincerely And help me your own child to be! Let nothing that I am or own Serve any will but yours alone. Now I Have Found the Firm Foundation

Author: Johann A. Rothe, 1688-1758 Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Appears in 12 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Now I have found the firm foundation Which holds my life forever sure; 'Twas laid before the world's creation In Christ my Savior's wounds secure, Foundation which unmoved shall stay When heav'n and earth will pass away. 2 It is that mercy never ending, Which human wisdom far transcends, Of him who, loving arms extending, To wretched sinners condescends. His heart with pity still will break Whether we seek him or forsake. 3 Our ruin God has not intended; For our salvation he has yearned. For this his Son to earth descended And then again to heav'n returned; For this so patient evermore He's knocking at our heart's closed door. 4 O depth of love, to me revealing The sea where my sins disappear! In Christ my wounds find perfect healing; There is no condemnation here! For Jesus' blood through earth and skies Forever "Mercy! Mercy!" cries. 5 Let mercy cause me to be willing To bear my lot and not to fret. While he my restless heart is stilling, May I this mercy not forget! Whatever comes my heart to test, His mercy is my only rest. 6 Lord, I will stand on this foundation As long as I on earth remain; This will engage my meditation While I the breath of life retain. And then, when face to face with you, I'll sing your mercy great and true. Oh, that I Had a Thousand Voices

Author: Johann Mentzer, 1658-1734 Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Appears in 11 hymnals Lyrics: 1 O, that I had a thousand voices To praise my God with thousand tongues! My heart, which in the Lord rejoices, Would then proclaim in grateful songs To all, wherever I might be, What great things God has done for me. 2 O all you pow'rs that he implanted, Arise, keep silence now no more; Put forth the strength that God has granted! Your noblest work is to adore. O soul and body, join to raise With heartfelt joy our maker's praise. 3 You forest leaves so green and tender That dance for joy in summer air, You meadow grasses, bright and slender, You flow'rs so fragrant and so fair, You live to show God's praise alone. Join me to make his glory known. 4 All creatures that have breath and motion, That throng the earth, the sea, the sky, Come, share with me my heart's devotion, Help me to sing God's praises high. My utmost pow'rs can never quite Declare the wonders of his might. 5 Creator, humbly I implore you To listen to my earthly song Until that day when I adore you, When I have joined the angel throng And learned with choirs of heaven to sing Eternal anthems to my king.
