Matthew 6:25-34

Author: William Cowper Appears in 409 hymnals Topics: Christian Experience First Line: Sometimes a light surprises Lyrics: 1 Sometimes a light surprises The Christian while he sings; It is the Lord who rises With healing in his wings: When comforts are declining, He grants the soul again A season of clear shining, To cheer it after rain. 2 In holy contemplation, We sweetly then pursue The theme of God's salvation, And find it ever new: Set free from present sorrow, We cheerfully can say, Let the unknown to-morrow Bring with it what it may. 3 It can bring with it nothing, But he will bring us through; Who gives the lilies clothing, Will clothe his people too: Beneath the spreading heavens, No creature but is fed; And he who feeds the ravens, Will give his children bread. 4 Though vine nor fig-tree neither, Their wonted fruit should bear, Though all the fields should wither, Nor flocks, nor herds be there; Yet God the same abiding, His praise shall tune my voice, For while in him confiding, I cannot but rejoice. Used With Tune: CASKEY

Sweet the Moments, Rich in Blessing

Author: Walter Shirley Meter: 8.7.8.7 Appears in 834 hymnals Topics: Forgiveness Experience of Lyrics: 1 Sweet the moments, rich in blessing, Which before the cross I spend, Life, and health, and peace possessing, From the sinner's dying Friend. 2 Here I’ll sit, forever viewing Mercy's streams in streams of blood: Precious drops, my soul bedewing, Plead and claim my peace with God. 3 Truly blessèd is the station, Low before His cross to lie, While I see divine compassion, Beaming in His gracious eye. 4 Lord, in ceaseless contemplation Fix my thankful heart on Thee, Till I taste Thy full salvation And Thine unveiled glory see. Amen. Used With Tune: BATTY (RINGE RECHT WENN GOTTES GNADE)

Where Shall My Wondering Soul Begin

Author: Charles Wesley Appears in 53 hymnals Topics: Christian Experience Lyrics: Where shall my wondering soul begin? How shall I all to heaven aspire? A slave redeemed from death and sin, a brand plucked from eternal fire, how shall I equal triumphs raise, or sing my great deliverer’s praise? O how shall I the goodness tell, Father, which thou to me hast showed? That I, a child of wrath and hell, I should be called a child of God! Should know, should feel my sins forgiven, blest with this antepast of heaven! And shall I slight my Father’s love, or basely fear his gifts to own? Unmindful of his favors prove, shall I, the hallowed cross to shun, refuse his righteousness to impart, by hiding it within my heart? Outcasts of men, to you I call, harlots, and publicans, and thieves; he spreads his arms to embrace you all, sinners alone his grace receive. No need of Him the righteous have; he came the lost to seek and save. Come, O my guilty brethren, come, groaning beneath your load of sin; his bleeding heart shall make you room, his open side shall take you in. He calls you now, invites you home: Come, O my guilty brethren, come. For you the purple current flowed in pardon from his wounded side, languished for you the eternal God, for you the Prince of Glory died. Believe, and all your sin’s forgiven, only believe--and yours is heaven.
