Come, thou Redeemer of the earth

Author: St. Ambrose, c. 340-397; J. M. Neale, 1818-1866 Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 11 hymnals Scripture: Galatians 4:4-5 Lyrics: 1 Come, thou Redeemer of the earth, and manifest thy virgin-birth: let every age adoring fall; such birth befits the God of all. 2 Begotten of no human will, but of the Spirit, thou art still the Word of God, in flesh arrayed, the Saviour, now to us displayed. 3 From God the Father he proceeds, to God the Father back he speeds, runs out his course to death and hell, returns on God's high throne to dwell. 4 O equal to thy Father, thou! Gird on thy fleshly mantle now, the weakness of our mortal state with deathless might invigorate. 5 Thy cradle here shall glitter bright, and darkness glow with new-born light, no more shall night extinguish day, where love's bright beams their power display. 6 O Jesu, virgin-born, to thee eternal praise and glory be, whom with the Father we adore and Holy Spirit, evermore. Amen. Topics: Christmas; Advent IV Year A; Advent IV Year C Used With Tune: PUER NOBIS NASCITUR

Our ev'ry step direct and guide, that Christ in all be glorified. 2 Christ be in work and skill, serving each other's need; Christ be in thought and will, Christ be in word and deed. Our minds be set on things above in joy and peace, in faith and love. 3 Grant us the Spirit's strength; teach us to walk his way; so bring us all at length safe to the close of day. From hour to hour sustain and bless, and let our song be thankfulness. 4 Now as the day begins, make it the best of days; take from us all our sins; guard us in all our ways. Tomorrow Christ Is Coming

Author: Fred Kaan, 1929-2009 Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 7 hymnals Scripture: Galatians 4:4-7 Lyrics: 1 Tomorrow Christ is coming as yesterday he came; a child is born this moment– we do not know its name. The world is full of darkness, again there is no room; the symbols of existence are stable, cross, and tomb. 2 Tomorrow will be Christmas, the feast of love divine, but for the nameless millions the star will never shine. Still is the census taken with people on the move; new infants born in stables are crying out for love. 3 There will be no tomorrows for many a baby born. Good Friday falls on Christmas when life is sown as corn. But Jesus Christ is risen and comes again in bread to still our deepest hunger and raise us from the dead. 4 Our God becomes incarnate in every human birth. Created in God's image, we must make peace on earth. God will fulfill Love's purpose and this shall be the sign: we shall find Christ among us as woman, child, or man. Topics: Advent; Children; Cross; Eternal Life; Jesus Christ The Incarnation; Peace on Earth; Poverty; Sacred Story; Suffering Used With Tune: CRAIGMILLAR
