Jesus, I know, hath died for me

Author: John Andrew Rothe; John Wesley Appears in 33 hymnals Topics: The Order of Salvation Faith and Justification; Sundays in Lent; Lent, First Sunday; Lent, Second Sunday; Lent, Fifth Sunday; Passion Week Lyrics: 1 Jesus, I know, hath died for me; Here is my hope, my joy, my rest; Hither, when hell assails, I flee, I look into my Saviour's breast: Away, sad doubt and anxious fear! Mercy is all that's written there. 2 Though waves and storms go o'er my head, Though strength, and health, and friends be gone; Though joys be withered all and dead, Though every comfort be withdrawn; On this my steadfast soul relies, Father, Thy mercy never dies. 3 Fixed on this ground will I remain, Though my heart fail and strength decay; This anchor shall my soul sustain, When earth's foundations melt away. Mercy's full power I then shall prove, Loved with an everlasting Love. Used With Tune: ST. MATTHIAS

There's a wideness in God's mercy

Author: Frederick William Faber (1814-1863) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 916 hymnals Topics: Assurance; Atonement; God in grace and mercy; God Love of; Kindness; Proper 15 Year A; Proper 5 Year C; The Fourth Sunday before Advent Year B; The Second Sunday of Lent Year C Lyrics: 1 There's a wideness in God's mercy like the wideness of the sea; there's a kindness in his justice which is more than liberty. There is no place where earth's sorrows are more felt than up in heaven; there is no place where earth's failings have such kindly judgement given. 2 For the love of God is broader than the measure of our mind, and the heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind. But we make his love too narrow by false limits of our own; and we magnify his strictness with a zeal he would not own. 3 There is plentiful redemption through the blood that has been shed; there is joy for all the members in the sorrows of the Head. There is grace enough for thousands of new worlds as great as this; there is room for fresh creations in that upper home of bliss. 4 If our love were but more simple, we should take him at his word; and our lives would be all gladness in the joy of Christ our Lord. Scripture: Psalm 103:12-13 Used With Tune: CORVEDALE

One there is above all others

Author: John Newton Meter: 8.7.7 Appears in 689 hymnals Topics: Praise to Christ; Epiphany, Second Sunday; Epiphany, Fifth Sunday; Sundays in Lent; Passion Week; Third Sunday after Trinity; Twelfth Sunday after Trinity; Eighteenth Sunday after Trinity Lyrics: 1 One there is above all others, Well deserves the name of Friend. His is love beyond a brother's, Costly, free, and knows no end. They who once His kindness prove, Find it everlasting Love. 2 Which of all our friends, to save us, Could or would have shed his blood? But this Saviour died to have us Reconciled in Him to God: This was boundless Love indeed: Jesus is a Friend in need. 3 When He lived on earth abaséd, Friend of sinners was His name, Now, above all glory raiséd, He rejoices in the same: Still He calls them brethren, friends, And to all their wants attends. 4 O for grace our hearts to soften! Teach us, Lord, at length to love, We, alas! forget too often What a Friend we have above: But when home our souls are brought, We will love Thee as we ought. Used With Tune: LIEBE DIE DU MICH ZUM BILDE

To those who fall, how kind Thou art, How good to those who seek! 4 But what to those who find? ah, this Nor tongue nor pen can show; The Love of Jesus, what it is, None but His loved ones know. 5 Jesus, our only Joy be Thou! Holy art Thou, Fair and glorious, All victorious, Rich in blessing, Rule and might o'er all possessing. 2 Thou Heavenly Brightness! Light Divine! O deep within my heart now shine, And make Thee there an altar! Fill me with joy and strength to be Thy member, ever joined to Thee In love that cannot falter; Toward Thee longing Doth possess me, Turn and bless me, For Thy gladness Eye and heart here pine in sadness. 3 But if Thou look on me in love, There straightway falls from God above A ray of purest pleasure; Thy Word and Spirit, Flesh and Blood, Refresh my soul with heavenly food, Thou art my hidden treasure; Let Thy grace, Lord, Warm and cheer O draw near me; Thou hast taught us Thee to seek since Thou hast sought us! 4 Here will I rest, and hold it fast, The Lord I love is First and Last, The End as the Beginning! Here I can calmly die, for Thou Wilt raise me where Thou dwellest now, Amen! Amen! Come, Lord Jesus, Soon release us, With deep yearning, Lord, we look for Thy returning.

Sover I dog aller Tre!
