Sebastian Temple

1928 - 1997 Scripture: Isaiah 6:8 Adapter of "Make Me a Channel of Your Peace (Prayer of St. Francis)" in Glory to God Sebastian Temple (1928-1997) grew up in South Africa and later moved to London, where he worked for the BBC on news broadcasts relating to South Africa. Sebastian converted to Catholicism and spent much of his time composing music for worship. 1767 - 1844 Person Name: Johan Astrom Scripture: Isaiah 6:5 Adapter of "In Heaven Above" in The Worshiping Church Åström, Johan. (Gaevle, Sweden, November 30, 1767--February 29, 1844). Lutheran. Ordained in 1793, he was briefly pastor of the German church in Norrkoeping, then appointed rector (1805) at Tuna and Stavby and (1821) at Sigtune and Altuna; assisted Archbishop J.O. William Maccall

1812 - 1888 Scripture: Isaiah 6:5 Translator of "In Heaven Above" in The Worshiping Church Maccall, William, son of William Maccall, was born at Largs, Ayrshire, Scotland, Feb. 25, 1812. In 1868, he published several translations from the Danish as Hymns of Denmark by Gilbert Tait. He has also published Hymns of Sweden rendered into English. Died: November 9, 1888, Bexley Heath (near London), England. Maccall earned a Master of Arts degree from the University of Glasgow, then studied theology in Geneva, Switzerland. Ordained a Unitarian minister, he pastored in Bolton, Lancashire (1837-40) and Crediton, Devonshire (1841-46), then moved to London. Donna Adkins

b. 1940 Scripture: Isaiah 6:3 Author of "Father, We Love You" in Songs for Life Donna Whobrey Adkins USA 1940-present. Born at Louisville, KY, she began singing in public at age two. Her family sang as a traveling quartet, and by age 12 she played piano with it. She attended Asbury College, Wilmore, KY, (1959-1960) and the U of Louisville, KY, in 1961. In 1959 she married James Adkins, who served as pastor of Administration at Covenant Church, Pittsburgh, PA. They had four children: Mark, Karen, Kristen, and Jessica. She served for some years on the office and music staff there, while her husband served as pastor and chaplain. Later, they moved to Greensburg, PA. She presently resides with her husband at Brunswick, GA, having been married 60+ years. John Perry

John Walker

1768 - 1833 Person Name: J. Walker Scripture: Isaiah 6:3 Author of "Thou God of power, thou God of love" in Methodist Hymn-Book Walker, John, B.D., son of Matthias Walker, was born at Silvermines, county Tipperary, in 1769, and educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He graduated in 1790, and was elected a Fellow on taking Holy Orders in 179lines Seceding from the Church of England he resigned his Fellowship in 1801, and founded the sect called "Walkerites." He died Oct. 23, 1833. He was the author of several mathematical, classical, and other works. His Essays and Correspondence were published in 1838. Of two hymns written by him for the opening of the Bethesda Chapel, Dorset Street, Dublin, on June 22, 1794, and which appeared in the Selection of Hymns for use there, 1814, one, "Thou God of Power and God of Love " (Opening of a Place of Worship), has passed into several collections, including the Irish Church Hymnal, 1873; the American Methodist Episcopal Hymnal, 1878, and others. Jimmy Owens

Dale Grotenhuis

1931 - 2012 Scripture: Isaiah 6:3 Harmonizer of "GLORIFY THY NAME" in Songs for Life Dale Grotenhuis (b. Cedar Grove, WI, 1931; d. Jenison, Mi, August 17, 2012) was a member of the 1987 Psalter Hymnal 1987 Revision Committee, and was professor of music and director of choral music at Dordt College, Sioux Center, Iowa, from 1960 until he retired in 1994 to concentrate on composition. Educated at Calvin College; Michigan State University, Lansing; and Ohio State University, Columbus; he combined teaching with composition throughout his career and was a widely published composer of choral music. He also directed the Dordt choir in a large number of recordings, including many psalm arrangements found in the 1959 edition of the Psalter Hymnal. Before coming to Dordt, Grotenhuis taught music at Christian high schools in Washington and Michigan. Under his direction, the Dordt College concert choir participated in annual tours that took members throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. He loved the church and the music of the church.
