Come the Day, Come the Sun (A Lifecycle Song)

Author: Shirley Erena Murray Meter: 6.7.8.6.7.9 Appears in 1 hymnal First Line: Come the day, come the sun Lyrics: Come the day, come the sun, come the moment of shining, let me see all the world in this light, in the goodness of God, in the earth and its music with the wings that give wonder its flight. 1 Come the day, come my work, that however I find it, I am blessed by what spirit achieves; let me center my thought, let me serve where it's needful, from the spring to the fall of the leaves. 2 Come the fears and the tears come the grief and regretting when the web of my weaving is torn; come the joys and the hopes when a new life is growing like the dream of a child to be born. 3 Come the night, come the stars, come the time for goodbye-ing in the circle of faith and of friend, giving thanks, knowing love in the deepest of measure, let me travel in peace to my end. Mother, Child, and Birthing Spirit

Author: Michael Hegeman Meter: Irregular Appears in 1 hymnal First Line: Mother, Child, and Birthing Spirit, hear us now, we pray Lyrics: 1 Mother, Child, and Birthing Spirit, hear us now, we pray. Lead us in creation's song, begun anew this day. Let it ring throughout the earth, let every people join in your hymn of grateful praise, most holy three in one. 2 Mother God, all praise to you and to your Child of Light. Birthing Spirit, draw us forth from out our seeming night, till we see your glory come: new heaven here on earth. Holy God in each of us, now called to sacred birth. 3 Green the grass and blue the sky, what wonders now we see. Eyes of gray or deepest brown, whose souls within are free. In each face we see your love, and in each one your care. Teach us now to know ourselves, with all, our beauty share. Topics: God's Attributes/Character Used With Tune: ADORO TE DEVOTE

So Is the Love of God

Author: Shirley Erena Murray Meter: 11.8.11.8 Appears in 2 hymnals First Line: Just as a mother sings her baby to sleep Lyrics: Just as a mother sings her baby to sleep, just as a father hugs his child, just as compassion gathers all to her wing: so is the love of God to me, so is the love of God to me. Just as a friend will listen when we are low, just as a neighbor lifts our load, just as the sun will turn the face of the flower: so is the love of God to me, so is the love of God to me. Strong as the beat that keeps the rhythm of life, clear as the song creation sings, true as the word that we are never alone: so is the love of God to me, so is the love of God to me. Scripture: 1 John 4:16 Used With Tune: PELENISE

A Vision Seen, a Call Obeyed

Author: Jeffery Rowthorn Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: A vision seen, a call obeyed drew Paul to Europe's shore where, resolute and unafraid, good news of Christ he bore; and in his steps, to all these lands, by dangers undeterred, came those whose lives and lips and hands made known God's saving word. This word, once sown in Europe's soil, set hearts and minds afire: the builder's skill, the laborer's toil raised nave and roof and spire: God's house where music touched the soul with pentecostal fire and art, the Savior to extol, clothed faith in bold attire. Time came when greed for gain was rife and faith gave way to doubt; then holy war and civil strife put mercy's claims to rout. Yet Spirit-led and eloquent, reformers did not cease to call on Christians to repent and strive for Europe's peace. The Bible as their strength and stay, their psalms robustly sung, those exiled here rejoiced to pray in their own mother-tongue; and, seeking refuge, folk still come to share in Europe's dream; let fear of strangers be overcome and `Welcome' be our theme. And now, Lord Jesus, make us one with all who bear your Name, with all by whom love's work is done, whose lives your truth proclaim; empower us with a faith well-trained, a glimpse of life made whole, that daily, by your grace sustained, we nourish Europe's soul. Scripture: Acts 16:9-10 Used With Tune: EUROPE

My Child is a Flower

Author: Daniel Charles Damon Meter: 6.5.6.5 D Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 My child is a flower, a joy to be shared. My child has been labeled "severely impaired." I have no instructions but nurture and care. Come see, in my garden, a flower so rare. 2 My child has emotions, a will, and a name. The needs of God's children are always the same: to live to the fullest, their own work of art, with faith and forgiveness, deep gifts of the heart. 3 A child, when supported by wisdom and grace, can teach many lessons, can love and embrace. So nurture the body, the spirit, the mind, and trust that our Maker is loving and kind. 4 Our goal is not safety, our goal is to live, to touch one another with love as we give. Come celebrate with me and learn something new. This flower is blooming for me and for you. Topics: Children Scripture: Matthew 19:13-15 Used With Tune: NOT BROKEN

There Is No Greater Portrait

Author: Eric Schumacher; David L. Ward Appears in 2 hymnals Lyrics: There is no greater portrait Of Love and sacrifice Than Jesus leaving glory And laying down His life. When I look on the sufferings My Savior chose to bear, It fills my heart with sorrow To think I put Him there. He ran the race before Him Though it was filled with pain, And walked the road to glory In agony and shame. Then for the joy before Him, He chose to bear the cross, pursued His Father's pleasure And counted all else loss. The Son of Man was lifted Before creation's eyes; Was mocked and scorned by soldiers, By kings and priests despised. But now the Son is risen, Ascended to the skies. By angels He is worshiped; By nations glorified. O Savior, let this sinner Be ransomed by the flood of mercy and forgiveness Abundant in Your blood. O Lord, by my salvation, Your Holy Spirit send To change my heart and cause me To love you to the end.

When Christ Was Raised From Death

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smith Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: When Christ was raised from death by God's almighty power, restored to life and thought and breath in that decisive hour, our glorious risen Lord abolished death and grave, in vindication of his word, his promised power to save. Within the darkened tomb, where cold his body lay, he rose from night's prevailing gloom to everlasting day; irreparable loss was overturned by heaven, that all who look to Jesus cross might know themselves forgiven. For we with him shall rise in hope of glory bright; a city fair before us lies where Christ is Light of Light; renewed, embodied, blest, through God's unbounded grace, to share in his eternal rest, and see the Saviour's face.
