Died: April 26, 1950, Cambridge, England. Buried: Parish of the Ascension Burial Ground (formerly St. Giles’ Burial Ground), Cambridge, England. A Cambridge University graduate, Macalister’s passion was archaeology. He was a contributor to the Journal of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, and directed digs for the Palestine Excavation Fund (1900-09, 1923-24). He also played the organ and directed the choir at the Adelaide Road Presbyterian Church in Dublin, and served on the committee that revised Scotland’s The Church Hymnody.
