In Loving-Kindness Jesus Came

Author: Charles H. Gabriel Meter: 8.8.8.6 with refrain Appears in 179 hymnals Scripture: Titus 3:4 Refrain First Line: From sinking sand He lifted me Lyrics: 1. In loving-kindness Jesus came My soul in mercy to reclaim, And from the depths of sin and shame Thro' grace He lifted me. From sinking sand He lifted me, With tender hand He lifted me, From shades of night to plains of light, O praise His name, He lifted me! 2. He called me long before I heard, Before my sinful heart was stirred, But when I took Him at His word, Forgiv'n, He lifted me. From sinking sand He lifted me, With tender hand He lifted me, From shades of night to plains of light, O praise His name, He lifted me. 3. His brow was pierced with many a thorn, His hands by cruel nails were torn, When from my guilt and grief forlorn, In love He lifted me. From sinking sand He lifted me, With tender hand He lifted me, From shades of night to plains of light, O praise His name, He lifted me. 4. Now on a higher plane I dwell, And with my soul I know 'tis well; Yet how or why I cannot tell He should have lifted me. From sinking sand He lifted me, With tender hand He lifted me, From shades of night to plains of light, O praise His name, He lifted me. Used With Tune: HE LIFTED ME

Wonderful Grace of Jesus

Author: Haldor Lillenas Meter: Irregular Appears in 108 hymnals Scripture: Titus 3:7 Refrain First Line: Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus Lyrics: 1 Wonderful grace of Jesus, greater than all my sin; how shall my tongue describe it, where shall its praise begin? Taking away my burden, setting my spirit free; for the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me. [Refrain:] Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus, deeper than the mighty rolling sea; higher than the mountain, sparkling like a fountain, all sufficient for even me; broader than the scope of my transgressions, greater far than all my sin and shame; O magnify the precious name of Jesus, praise his name! 2 Wonderful grace of Jesus, reaching to all the lost, by it I have been pardoned, saved to the uttermost; chains have been torn asunder, giving me liberty, for the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me. (Refrain) 3 Wonderful grace of Jesus, reaching the most defiled, by its transforming power making me God’s dear child, purchasing peace and heaven for all eternity-- and the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me. (Refrain) Topics: Burdens; Grace of Christ; Pardon; Saving Work of Christ; Witness Used With Tune: WONDERFUL GRACE

By Grace I'm Saved

Author: Christian Ludwig Scheidt, 1709-61 Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Appears in 24 hymnals Scripture: Titus 3:4-7 First Line: By grace I'm saved, grace free and boundless Lyrics: 1 By grace I'm saved, grace free and boundless; My soul, believe and doubt it not. Why stagger at this word of promise? Has Scripture ever falsehood taught? No! Then this word must true remain; By grace you too will life obtain. 2 By grace! None dare lay claim to merit; Our works and conduct have no worth. God in His love sent our Redeemer, Christ Jesus, to this sinful earth; His death did for our sins atone, And we are saved by grace alone. 3 By grace God's Son, our only Savior, Came down to earth to bear our sin. Was it because of your own merit That Jesus died your soul to win? No, it was grace, and grace alone, That brought Him from His heav'nly throne. 4 By grace! This ground of faith is certain; So long as God is true, it stands. What saints have penned by inspiration, What in His Word our God commands, Our faith in what our God has done Depends on grace--grace through His Son. 5 By grace to timid hearts that tremble, In tribulation's furnace tried, By grace, in spite of fear and trouble, The Father's heart is open wide. Where could I help and strength secure If grace were not my anchor sure? 6 By grace! On this I'll rest when dying; In Jesus' promise I rejoice; For though I know my heart's condition, I also know my Savior's voice. My heart is glad, all grief has flown Since I am saved by grace alone. Used With Tune: O DASS ICH TAUSEND ZUNGEN HÄTTE (DRETZEL) Text Sources: The Lutheran Hymnal, 1941 (Tr.), alt.
