Psalm 148

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 6.6.8.6 Appears in 160 hymnals Topics: Creation and Providence; Works of creation and providence First Line: Let every creature join Lyrics: Let every creature join To praise th' eternal God; Ye heav'nly hosts, the song begin, And sound his name abroad. Thou sun with golden beams, And moon with paler rays; Ye starry lights, ye twinkling flames, Shine to your Maker's praise. He built those worlds above, And fixed their wondrous frame; By his command they stand or move, And ever speak his name. Ye vapors, when ye rise, Or fall in showers of snow; Ye thunders, murmuring round the skies, His power and glory show. Wind, hail, and flashing fire, Agree to praise the Lord, When ye in dreadful storms conspire To execute his word. By all his works above His honors be expressed; But saints that taste his saving love Should sing his praises best. Let earth and ocean know They owe their Maker praise; Praise him, ye wat'ry worlds below, And monsters of the seas. From mountains near the sky Let his high praise resound; From humble shrubs and cedars high, And vales and fields around. Ye lions of the wood, And tamer beasts that graze, Ye live upon his daily food, And he expects your praise. Ye birds of lofty wing, On high his praises bear; Or sit on flowery boughs, and sing Your Maker's glory there. Ye creeping ants and worms, His various wisdom show, And flies, in all your shining swarms, Praise him that dressed you so. By all the earth-born race His honors be expressed; But saints, that know his heav'nly grace Should learn to praise him best. Monarchs of wide command, Praise ye th' eternal King; Judges, adore that sovereign hand Whence all your honors spring. Let vig'rous youth engage To sound his praises high: While growing babes, and with'ring age, Their feebler voices try. United zeal be shown His wondrous fame to raise: God is the Lord; his name alone Deserves our endless praise. Let nature join with art, And all pronounce him blest; But saints, that dwell so near his heart, Should sing his praises best. Scripture: Psalm 148

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 77 hymnals Topics: Works of Creation and Providence Lyrics: 1 Rejoice, ye righteous, in the Lord, This work belongs to you; Sing of his name, his ways, his word, How holy, just, and true! 2 His mercy and his righteousness Let heav'n and earth proclaim; His works of nature and of grace Reveal his wond'rous name. 3 His word, with energy divine, The heav'nly arches spread, Bade starry hosts around them shine, And light the heav'ns pervade. 4 He taught the swelling waves to flow To their appointed deep; Bade raging seas their limits know, And still their station keep. 5 Ye tenants of the spacious earth, With fear before him stand; He spake, and nature took its birth, And rests on his command. 6 He scorns the angry nation's' rage, And breaks their vain designs; His counsel stands thro' every age, And in full glory shines. Scripture: Psalm 33:1-6

May Your angel guards defend us, Slumber sweet Your mercy send us, Holy dreams and hopes attend us All through the night. 2 And when morn again shall call us To run life's way, May we still, whate'er befall us, Your will obey. From the pow'r of evil hide us, In the narrow pathway guide us, Never be Your smile denied us All through the day. 3 Guard us waking, guard us sleeping, And, when we die, May we in Your mighty keeping All peaceful lie. When the last dread call shall wake us, Then, O Lord, do not forsake us, But to reign in glory take us With You on high. 4 Holy Father, throned in heaven, All-holy Son, Holy Spirit, freely given, Blest Three-in-One: Grant us grace, we now implore You, Till we lay our crowns before You, And in worthier strains adore You While ages run. To thee, O GOD, we render Praise

Appears in 1 hymnal Topics: Songs of Praise to God the Creation and Providence Lyrics: 1 To thee, O GOD, we render Praise, To thee with daily Thanks repair; For that thy Name to us is nigh, Thy great and wond'rous Works declare. For thou, O LORD, art still the same, And very glorious is thy Name. 2 In Israel when my Throne is fix'd, With me shall Truth and Justice reign; The Land with Discord shakes, but I The falling Pillars will sustain. To Fools, I said, your Wrongs redress, To wicked Men, your Pride suppress. 3 For that Promotion which to gain, Your vain Ambition daily strives; From neither East, nor West, nor North, Nor yet from Southern Climes arrives. For GOD will cast the Haughty down, And lift the Humble to a Throne. 4 His Hand holds forth a dreadful Cup, With purple Wine full mix'd 'tis crown'd, The deadly Potion which his Wrath, Shall pour upon the Nations round, Its bitter Dregs shalt sinners squeeze, And drink up all the deadly Lees. 5 But I will talk of Jacob's GOD, And to the World his Pow'r relate; His Justice, Truth and Mercy too, My song shall ever celebrate; The Wicked shall before him fly, The Just shall be exalted high. Scripture: Psalm 75 Used With Tune: [To thee, O God, we render Praise]
