A Wicked Life

Hymnal: The Psalter #93 (1912) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Scripture: Psalm 36 First Line: The trespass of the wicked man Lyrics: 1 The trespass of the wicked man Most plainly testifies That fear of God's most holy Name Is not before his eyes. 2 He cherishes the empty hope, Although his sin be great, It never shall be brought to light And viewed with righteous hate. 3 The words he utters with his mouth Are wickedness and lies; He keeps himself from doing good, And ceases to be wise. 4 While on his bed his thought he gives To planning wickedness; He sets himself in evil ways, He shuns not to transgress. Topics: Character Vicious; Godly Fear Described; Heart Claimed of God; Heart Evil, Hard, and Stubborn; The Wicked Condemnation of Languages: English Tune Title: CHIMES

A Psalm of David, the Servant of the LORD

Hymnal: The Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs of the Old and New Testament, faithully translated into English metre #PXXXVI (1758) Scripture: Psalm 36 First Line: The trespass of the wicked man Lyrics: 1 The trespass of the wicked man so plain and open lies; My heart concludes, the fear of GOD is not before his eyes. 2 For in his own deceitful view self-flatteries abound; Till his iniquity breaks out, and odious is found. 2 The words that issue from his mouth, are vain and guileful too; He quite hath ceased to be wise, and any good to do. 4 Yea, when he lies upon his bed, he mischief meditates; He set himself in no good way, nor any evil hates. [2 Part] 5 Thy mercy O JEHOVAH is within the heav'ns on high; thy faithfulness does also reach above the cloudy sky. 6 Like mountains great* thy righteousness! thy judgments a great deep! Both man and beast,Thou kindly LORD dost condescend to keep. 7 O GOD, thy loving-kindness is of wondrous excellence: Therefore in shadow of thy wings, men's sons put confidence. 8 Ev'n of the fatness of thy house, they to the full shall take; And of the stream of thy delights, to drink Thou wilt them make. 9 Because the flowing spring of life, ever abides in thee; And in thy light, the light of grace and glory we shall see. 10 O stretch thy loving-kindness forth to all who Thee do know; And to all those of upright heart thy righteousness still show. 11 I suffer not the foot of pride to make approach to me; Nor by the hand of wicked men let me removed be. 12 Lo There they all are fallen down, who work iniquities; Down are they cast, and never shall be able to arise.
