How blest is he who ne'er consents to walk

Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 1 Lyrics: 1 How blest is he, who ne'er consents to walk By ill Advice nor dares to stand and talk In Sinners' Way, their Vice and Cause maintaining Nor sits with Scorners, Things divine profaning: But in GOD's sacred Law takes great Delight, Still reads by Day and meditates by Night. 2 Like some fair Tree, fix'd by the River's Side, Which bends with Fruit, and spreads its Foliage wide; So shall he flourish, Heav'n his Cause defending, And sweet Success his good Designs attending: In vain the Tempest strives to shake his Leaf, The Son of Joy breaks thro' the clouds of Grief. 3 Not to the Wicked; they no Root shall find, But fly like Chaff before the rapid Wind. The Lord hath not their evil Ways approved, Their Race shall therefore from the Earth be moved. They shall not stand in GOD's most holy Sight, Who only loves the Man that seeketh Right. 4 When GOD with Glory shall in Judgment come, A conscious Guilt shall strike the Sinner dumb; Nor to the Wicked will he grant a Station, Among the pure and righteous Congregation: The Ways of Justice, thus, to Bliss shall tend, Whilst Sinners' Paths must in their Ruin end. Topics: Description of Happiness of Man; Prophecies Predictions of God's Judgment upon the Ungodly and Wicked Used With Tune: [How blest is he, who ne'er consents to walk]

O blessed man that walks not in

Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 1 Lyrics: 1 O blessed man that walks not in Th' advice of wicked men, Nor standeth in the sinner way, Nor scorners seats sits in. 2 But he upon Jehovah's law Doth set his whole delight, And in his law doth meditate Both in the day and night. 3 He shall be like a planted tree by water-brooks which shall In his due season yield his fruit, Whose leaf shall never fall. And all he doth shall prosper well. 4 The wicked are not so: But they are like unto the chaff Which wind drives to and fro. 5 Therefore shall not ungodly men In judgement stand upright, Nor in th' assembly of the just Shall stand the sinful wight. 6 For of the righteous men the Lord Acknowledgeth the way; Whereas the way of wicked men Shall utterly decay. 6 For of the righteous men the Lord

Thrice blest the Man, who ne'er thinks fit

Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 1 Lyrics: 1 Thrice blest the Man, who ne'er thinks fit To walk as wicked Men advise; To stand in Sinners Way, nor sit With those who God, and Man, despise. 2. Whose pious Soul directs his Way By sacred Writ, his sweet Delight, Thro' all the Labours of the Day; And meditates thereon by Night. 3. As planted Trees, by Rivers Sides, Yield timely Fruit, a vast Encrease; So in fresh Verdure he abides, And God his handy work will bless. 4. But those that spurn at sacred Laws, Shall no such Favour with him find; For God will blast them, and their Cause, And whirl, as Chaff, before the Wind. 5 However, in the Judgment Day The Wicked shall not stand the Light; Mix wit the Righteous shall not they, Nor any formal Hypocrite. 6. The Lord, who now with Pleasure view, Will then applaud, the just Man's Way; But who his Name and Word abuse, Shall feel his Wrath, and melt away.

The man who erring counsel shuns

Author: John Brownlie Meter: 8.6.8.6.8.8 Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 1 Lyrics: I The man who erring counsel shuns, Nor strays where sinners meet, But in the law of God delights In meditation sweet, Shall reap the happiness of those To whom the Lord His favour shews. II As tree beside the water brooks Whose leaf unfading lives, And when the time appointed comes, A bounteous fruitage gives;— So shall he prosper all his days, Whose hope is in God’s law always. III Not so the wicked,—they are chaff Before the wind that flies, Nor could they stand His searching glance, Should God in judgment rise; For known to God are all the right, But wicked men shall perish quite.

Blest is the man, whose honest soul disdains

Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 1 Lyrics: 1 Blest is the man, whose honest soul disdains To tread the path where impious counsel reigns; That in the way of sinners has not stood, Nor fill'd the chair of the imperious proud. 2 But makes Jehovah's law his dear delight, And meditates thereon by day, by night. 3 Like some fair tree, that near a riv'let grows, And shades the waters with it's spreading boughs, Boughs, that nor wither, nor delusive are, But with their fruit reward the planter's care, He'll flourish long--of heav'n itself the love, And ev'ry solid joy and comfort prove/ 4 Not so the wicked--like the chaff that flies, And scatters far, when driving winds arise; By the black whirlwind of their passions tost, In guilt, and in it's direful woes they're lost. 5 When therefore at the last tremendous day Comes forth th' almighty judge in dread array; Struck with their crimes, his presence small they fly, Nor join the righteous in their songs of joy. 6 For well our God the just man's way discerns, That he the path to heav'n with rapture learns; While impious men, who tread of sin the road, For ever perish--such thy will, O God !
