Jesus, the Conqueror, Reigns

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 111 hymnals Lyrics: 1. Jesus, the Conqueror, reigns, In glorious strength arrayed, His kingdom over all maintains, And bids the earth be glad. Ye sons of men, rejoice In Jesus’ mighty love, Lift up your heart, lift up your voice To Him who rules above. 2. Extol His kingly power, Kiss the exalted Son, Who died, and lives, to die no more, High on His Father’s throne; Our Advocate with God, He undertakes our cause, And spreads through all the earth abroad The victory of His cross. 3. That bloody banner see, And in your Captain’s sight, Fight the good fight of faith with me, My fellow soldiers, fight! In mighty phalanx joined, To battle all proceed; Armed with the unconquerable mind Which was in Christ your Head. 4. Urge on your rapid course, Ye blood besprinkled bands; The heavenly kingdom suffers force, ’Tis seized by violent hands; See there the starry crown That glitters through the skies! Satan, the world, and sin, tread down, And take the glorious prize. 5. Through much distress and pain, Through many a conflict here, Through blood, ye must the entrance gain; Yet, O disdain to fear! Courage! your Captain cries, Who all your toil foreknew Toil ye shall have; yet all despise, I have o’ercome for you. 6. The world cannot withstand Its ancient conqueror, The world must sink beneath The hand which arms us for the war; This is the victory! Before our faith they fall; Jesus hath died for you and me; Believe, and conquer all! Used With Tune: DIADEMATA Text Sources: Hymns and Sacred Poems, 1749

We Sing the Boundless Praise

Author: Joseph C. Macaulay Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 2 hymnals Lyrics: 1 We sing the boundless praise Of Him who reigns on high, And of His glorious Son, the Lamb Who brought salvation nigh. Thine everlasting pow'r And majesty we sing, But with our songs of sov'reign grace We'll make heav'n's arches ring. 2 Thy precious blood alone, O Christ, has brought us near; No longer strangers, God in love Calls us His children dear. The title of the Lamb Thou bearest still in heav'n. Memorial of Thy sacrifice, And love to sinners giv'n. 3 All hail! Redeemer, King, Thou Lamb of Calvary! Let ransomed sinners sing Thy name Thro' all eternity. When stand the ransomed throng Before the great I Am, This shall their endless anthem be, "All worthy is the Lamb!" Amen. Hark, How the Watchmen Cry

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 85 hymnals Lyrics: 1. Hark, how the watchmen cry, Attend the trumpet’s sound! Stand to your arms, the foe is nigh, The powers of hell surround: Who bow to Christ’s command, Your arms and hearts prepare! The day of battle is at hand! Go forth to glorious war! 2. See on the mountain-top The standard of your God! In Jesus’ name I lift it up, All stained with hallowed blood. His standard-bearer, I To all the nations call, Let all to Jesus’ cross draw nigh! He bore the cross for all. 3. Go up with Christ your head, Your captain’s footsteps see; Follow your captain, and be led To certain victory. All power to Him is giv’n, He ever reigns the same; Salvation, happiness, and Heav’n Are all in Jesus’ name. 4. Only have faith in God; In faith your foes assail, Not wrestling against flesh and blood, But all the powers of hell; From thrones of glory driv’n, By flaming vengeance hurled, They throng the air, and darken Heav’n, And rule the lower world. Made Of A Woman

Author: Horatius Bonar Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal First Line: The Christ of God hath come Lyrics: 1 The Christ of God hath come, Long promised, long delayed! True God, from Heav’n He cometh down, True man, of woman made. The Son of God is here: O fair and welcome morn; God manifest in flesh hath come, To us a child is born! 2 In lowliness He lies, That blessèd Babe of Heav’n; Our God for us becometh man, To us a son is giv’n! He cometh in His love, For us on earth to live; To bear all the burden of our guilt, For us His life to give. 3 O many sided love, So boundless and so free! Love of the cradle and the cross, What joy we find in Thee! He cometh in His grace, The guilty to forgive; He cometh in His glorious power, That maketh dead men live. 4 He comes to live our life, He comes to weep our tears, To give us sympathy in all Our sorrows and our fears. He comes to die our death, To enter our dark tomb, To conquer our last enemy, And rob the grave of gloom. 5 He cometh, clothed in light, To bid our darkness flee; For night to give us day, for death His immortality. The Christ of God we sing, The Babe of Bethlehem! And on His infant head we place His royal diadem. 6 The crown of thorns is His, That Child of poverty, Who on this earth of ours can find No place His head to lay. The crown of Heav’n is His, And angels own Him there. The crown of earth shall yet be His, And we that crown shall share. Soldiers of Christ, Arise

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 895 hymnals Lyrics: 1. Soldiers of Christ, arise, and put your armor on, strong in the strength which God supplies thru his eternal Son; strong in the Lord of Hosts, and in his mighty power, who in the strength of Jesus trusts is more than conqueror. 2. Stand then in his great might, with all his strength endued, but take to arm you for the fight the panoply of God; that having all things done, and all your conflicts passed, ye may o'ercome thru Christ alone and stand entire at last. 3. Pray without ceasing, pray, (your Captain gives the word) his summons cheerfully obey and call upon the Lord; to God your every want in instant prayer display, pray always, pray and never faint, pray, without ceasing pray. 4. From strength to strength go on, wrestle and fight and pray, tread all the powers of darkness down and win the well-fought day. Still let the Spirit cry in all his soldiers, "Come!" till Christ the Lord descends from high and takes the conquerors home.
