1885 - 1968 Person Name: Francis John Moore Author of "Father of mercy" in The Hymnal of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America 1940 Moore, Francis John. (Derby, England, August 27, 1885--August 17, 1968, Cincinnati, Ohio). Anglican. Durham, B.A., 1910; Trinity College, Toronto, B.D>, 1926; General Theological Seminary, S.T.D., 1956. He came to Canada in 1912 joining the staff of St. James' Cathedral, Toronto. Serves as a chaplain with the Canadian Army, 1915-1919, and directed the University of Toronto's Student Christian Association 1926-1931. Married Dora Mavor in 1923. In 1931 he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, but his wife stayed in Toronto, where she had in 1930 set up a school for actors. On his retirement in 1957, he fittingly became chaplain of the Episcopal Actors' Guild. --Hugh D. From 1950 until 1957 he was editor of the Episcopal Church's Forward Movement Publications. He was the author of The Church in the Making, 1936. Magda Carlsson

1896 - 1971 Translator (in part) of "Ĉarma la tero" in TTT-Himnaro Cigneta Magda Carlsson-Bohman, 1896-1971, Swedish poet and translator, published mostly under the name Magda Carlsson. The 1952 hymnal Evangelia kantaro consisted largely of her hymn translations, and 22 of her texts (including two originals) are in Adoru kantante, 1971, and 14 texts in Adoru, 2001.

The members of the committee were Adolf Burkhardt, a German Lutheran pastor, and two Roman Catholic priests, Albrecht Kronenberger and Bernhard Eichkorn.

Robert Walmsley

1831 - 1905 Author of "O praise our God today" in The Sunday School Hymnary Walmsley, Robert, was b. at Manchester March 18, 1831, went to Sale in 1870, where he was till 1904 in business as a jeweller, and d. at Sale Oct. 30, 1905. He was a Congregationalist, and was for 28 years connected with the work of the Manchester Sunday School Union, many of his hymns being written for the annual Whitweek Festival. He published 44 of them, with a preface dated Dec. 1900, as Sacred Songs for Children of all Ages. They are simple, musical, full of a deep love of God, of the works of God in nature, and of little children, and deserve to be more extensively used. The best-known of the longer hymns are:— 1. O praise our God to-day; Ye people haste to pay. [Praise to God.] Dated 1899, and included in his Sacred Songs, &c, 1900, No. 25. 2. Praise the Lord, His works exalt Him. [Praise to God.] Dated 1888. In his Sacral Songs, &c, 1900, No. 31. 3. The sun declines, o'er land and sea. [Evening,] Dated 1893. In his Sacred Songs, Dec., 1900, No. 38. It was given in the Scotch Church Hymnary, 1898.
