Christ ascending and reigning

Appears in 207 hymnals Topics: Church of the Gentiles; Gentiles owning the true God; Church of the Gentiles; Gentiles owning the true God First Line: Oh for a shout of sacred joy Lyrics: 1 Oh for a shout of sacred joy To God the sovereign King! Let every land their tongues employ, And hymns of triumph sing. 2 Jesus our God ascends on high; His heavenly guards around Attend him rising thro' the sky, With trumpet's joyful sound. 3 While angels shout and praise their King, Let mortals learn their strains; Let all the earth his honours sing; O’er all the earth he reigns. 4 Rehearse his praise with awe profound, Let knowledge guide the song; Nor mock him with a solemn sound Upon a thoughtless tongue. 5 In Israel stood his antient throne, He lov'd that chosen race; But now he calls the world his own, And heathens taste his grace. 6 The Gentile nations are the Lord’s, There Abraham’s God is known; While powers and princes, shields and swords Submit before his throne. Scripture: Psalm 47

Psalm 65 Part 1

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 80 hymnals Topics: Gentiles church First Line: The praise of Zion waits for thee Lyrics: The praise of Zion waits for thee, My God, and praise becomes thy house; There shall thy saints thy glory see, And there perform their public vows. O thou whose mercy bends the skies To save when humble sinners pray, All lands to thee shall lift their eyes, And islands of the northern sea. Against my will my sins prevail, But grace shall purge away their stain; The blood of Christ will never fail To wash my garments white again. Blest is the man whom thou shalt choose, And give him kind access to thee; Give him a place within thy house, To taste thy love divinely free. Let Babel fear when Zion prays; Babel, prepare for long distress, When Zion's God himself arrays In terror and in righteousness. With dreadful glory God fulfils What his afflicted saints request; And with almighty wrath reveals His love, to give his churches rest. Then shall the flocking nations run To Zion's hill, and own their Lord; The rising and the setting sun Shall see the Savior's name adored. Scripture: Psalm 65:1-5

Psalm 65 Part 2

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 23 hymnals Topics: Gentiles church First Line: The God of our salvation hears Lyrics: The God of our salvation hears The groans of Zion mixed with tears; Yet when he comes with kind designs, Through all the way his terror shines. On him the race of man depends, Far as the earth's remotest ends, Where the Creator's name is known By nature's feeble light alone. Sailors, that travel o'er the flood, Address their frighted souls to God, When tempests rage and billows roar At dreadful distance from the shore. He bids the noisy tempests cease; He calms the raging crowd to peace, When a tumultuous nation raves Wild as the winds, and loud as waves. Whole kingdoms, shaken by the storm, He settles in a peaceful form; Mountains, established by his hand, Firm on their old foundations stand. Behold his ensigns sweep the sky, New comets blaze, and lightnings fly; The heathen lands, with swift surprise, From the bright horrors turn their eyes. At his command the morning ray Smiles in the east, and leads the day; He guides the sun's declining wheels Over the tops of western hills. Seasons and times obey his voice; The ev'ning and the morn rejoice To see the earth made soft with showers, Laden with fruit, and dressed in flowers. 'Tis from his wat'ry stores on high He gives the thirsty ground supply; He walks upon the clouds, and thence Doth his enriching drops dispense. The desert grows a fruitful field, Abundant food the valleys yield; The valleys shout with cheerful voice, And neighb'ring hills repeat their joys. The pastures smile in green array; There lambs and larger cattle play; The larger cattle and the lamb Each in his language speaks thy name. Thy works pronounce thy power divine; O'er every field thy glories shine; Through every month thy gifts appear; Great God, thy goodness crowns the year! Scripture: Psalm 65:5-13

Psalm 65 Part 3

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 106 hymnals Topics: Gentiles church First Line: Good is the Lord, the heav'nly King Lyrics: Good is the Lord, the heav'nly King, Who makes the earth his care; Visits the pastures ev'ry spring, And bids the grass appear. The clouds, like rivers raised on high, Pour out at thy command Their wat'ry blessings from the sky, To cheer the thirsty land. The softened ridges of the field Permit the corn to spring; The valleys rich provision yield, And the poor lab'rers sing. The little hills, on every side, Rejoice at falling showers; The meadows, dressed in all their pride, Perfume the air with flowers. The barren clods, refreshed with rain, Promise a joyful crop; The parching grounds look green again, And raise the reaper's hope. The various months thy goodness crowns; How bounteous are thy ways! The bleating flocks spread o'er the downs, And shepherds shout thy praise. Scripture: Psalm 65

Appears in 137 hymnals Topics: Gentiles church; Gentiles church First Line: 'Tis by thy strength the mountains stand Lyrics: 1 'Tis by thy strength the mountains stand, God of eternal power; The sea grows calm at thy command, And tempests cease to roar. 2 Thy morning light and evening shade, Successive comforts bring; Thy plenteous fruits make harvest glad, Thy flowers adorn the spring. 3 Seasons and times, and moon, and hours, Heaven, earth and air are thine; When clouds, distil in fruitful showers, The Author is divine: 4 Those wandering cisterns in the sky Borne by the winds around, With watery treasures well supply The furrows of the ground. 5 The thirsty ridges drink their fill, And ranks of corn appear; Thy ways abound with blessings still, Thy goodness crowns the year. How Lovely Shines the Morning Star

Author: P. Nicolai, 1556-1608 Meter: 8.8.7.8.8.7.2.2.4.4.4.8 Appears in 13 hymnals Topics: Jesus, Savior of Gentiles Lyrics: 1 How lovely shines the Morning Star! The nations see and hail afar The light in Judah shining. Thou David's Son of Jacob's race, My Bridegroom and my King of Grace, For Thee my heart is pining. Lowly, Holy, Great and glorious, Thou victorious Prince of graces, Filling all the heav'nly places. 2 O highest joy by mortals won, True Son of God and Mary's Son, Thou high-born King of ages! Thou art my heart's most beauteous Flow'r, And Thy blest Gospel's saving pow'r My raptured soul engages. Thou mine, I Thine; Sing hosanna! Heav'nly manna Tasting, eating, Whilst Thy love in songs repeating. 3 Now richly to my waiting heart, O Thou, my God, deign to impart The grace of love undying. In Thy blest body let me be, E'en as the branch is in the tree, Thy life my life supplying. Sighing, Crying. For the savor Of Thy favor; Resting never, Till I rest in Thee forever. 4 A pledge of peace from God I see When Thy pure eyes are turned to me To show me Thy good pleasure. Jesus, Thy Spirit and Thy Word, Thy body and Thy blood, afford My soul its dearest treasure. Keep me Kindly In Thy favor, O my Savior! Thou wilt cheer me; Thy Word calls me to draw near Thee. 5 Thou, mighty Father, in Thy Son Didst love me ere Thou hadst begun This ancient world's foundation. Thy Son hath made a friend of me, And when in spirit Him I see, I joy in tribulation. What bliss Is this! He that liveth To me giveth Life forever; Nothing me from Him can sever. 6 Lift up the voice and strike the string. Let all glad sounds of music ring In God's high praises blended. Christ will be with me all the way, Today, tomorrow, every day, Till trav'ling days be ended. Sing out, Ring out Triumph glorious, O victorious, Chosen nation; Praise the God of your salvation. 7 Oh, joy to know that Thou, my Friend, Art Lord, Beginning without end, The First and Last, Eternal! And Thou at length--O glorious grace!-- Wilt take me to that holy place, The home of joys supernal. Amen, Amen! Come and meet me! Quickly greet me! With deep yearning, Lord, I look for Thy returning. The race that long in darkness pined

Author: C. Wesley Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 217 hymnals Topics: A Light to Lighten the Gentiles Lyrics: 1 The race that long in darkness pined Have seen a glorious light; The people dwell in day, who dwelt In death's surround night. 2 To hail thy rise, thou better Sun, The gathering nations come With joy, as when the reapers bear The harvest treasures home. 3 To us a child of hope is born, To us a Son is given; And him shall all the earth obey, And all the hosts of heaven. 4 His name shall be the Prince of Peace, For evermore adored, The Wonderful, the Counsellor, The great and mighty Lord.
