Oyes cómo el Evangelio

Author: Juan Bautista Cabrera, 1837-1916 Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.7.8.7 Appears in 12 hymnals Lyrics: 1 ¿Oyes cómo el Evangelio Al cansado ofrece paz? Over Kedron Jesus treadeth

Author: Bishop Thomas King, 1634-1703; J. Jeffrey Appears in 15 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Over Kedron Jesus treadeth To His passion for us all; Ev'ry human eye be weeping, Tears of bitter grief let fall! Round His spirit flock the foes, Place their shafts and bend their bows, Aiming at the Savior solely, While the world forsakes Him wholly. 2 David once, with heart afflicted, Crossed the Kedron's narrow strand, Clouds of gloom and grief about him When an exile from his land. But, O Jesus! blacker now Bends the cloud above Thy brow, Hasting to death's dreary portals For the shame and sin of mortals. 3 See how, anguish-struck, He falleth Prostrate, and with struggling breath, Three times on His God He calleth, Praying that the bitter death And the cup of doom may go, Still He cries, in all His woe: Not My will, but Thine, O Father-- And the angels round Him gather. 4 See how, in that hour of darkness, Battling with the evil power, Agonies untold assail Him, On His soul the arrows shower; All the garden flowers are wet With the drops of bloody sweat, From His anguished frame distilling-- World's redemption thus fulfilling! 5 But, O flowers, so sadly watered By this pure and precious dew, In some blessed hour your blossoms 'Neath the olive-shadows grew! Eden's garden did not bear Aught that can with you compare, For the blood thus sprinkled o'er ye Makes my soul the heir of glory. 6 When as flowers themselves I wither, When I droop and fade life grass, When the life-streams through my pulses Dull and ever duller pass, When at last they cease to roll, Then, to cheer my singing soul, Grace of Jesus, be Thou given-- Source of Triumph! Pledge of heaven! Topics: The Church Year Passion; First Sunday in Lent Used With Tune: LUDWIGSBURG (Freu dich sehr, o meine Seele) Text Sources: Danish

Just Judge of Heav'n, against my Foes

Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 Just Judge of Heav'n, against my Foes Do Thou assert my Right, Oh set me free, my GOD, from those Who in Deceit delight; Since thou'rt my only Stay, Why mourn I all the Day? Why leav'st thou me in deep Distress, While daring Foes my Soul oppress? 2 Let me with Light and Truth be bless'd, O let them lead the Way, 'Till on thy holy Hill I rest, And in thy Temple pray; Fresh Altars then I'll raise To GOD; and Songs of Praise To him, who is my only Joy, Shall all my grateful Hours employ. 3 Why then cast down my Soul, and why So much oppress'd with Care? On GOD, thy GOD, for Aid rely, Who will thy State repair: On him alone depend, For he's thy surest Friend; And then his Praise thou yet shalt sing, Who is thy Health's eternal Spring. Topics: Prayers When deprived ot the Opportunitys of attending in God's House; Prophecies Prophetical Curses against the Enemies and Persecutors of the Chruch Scripture: Psalm 43 Used With Tune: [Just Judge of Heav'n, against my Foes]

Seeking Water, Seeking Shelter

Author: Eric Routley Meter: 8.7.8.7.7.7.8.8 Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 Seeking water, seeking shelter, gasps the thirsty, weary deer; so my soul in days of trouble longs for God's refreshments here. In this stressful course of life, in its loneliness and strife, "When," say I, "will God deliver; is his mercy gone forever?" 2 No! he is my soul's true fortress; though I hear those voices wild-- "Where's your God? why has he left you?-- he will not forget his child. Come then, be my advocate, come, your servant vindicate; then no more in fruitless sorrow shall I face a barren morrow. 3 Send your light and trust to lead me; then the path shall I discern to my father's house, where welcome waits the prodigal's return. Then new songs shall fil my days, ev'ry moment full of praise, with the faithful who surround him, with the blest ones who have found him. 4 So, my soul, why such disquiet? why such mourning, why such fear? Day already breaks on darkness, God has sought you, God is near. Hope in God and you shall live; all delight he waits to give; peace and power and ev'ry blessing you shall know, this faith confessing.
