Often mislabeled as a traditional song because of its simple structure, this was a collaboration between Larry E. Roberts and Albertina Walker in preparation for their album with gospel legend James Clevaland, Please Be Patient with Me (1979), recorded at Trinity All Nations Church in Chicago. On the album cover, the song was credited solely to Albertina Walker, but in an interview for Hymns & Devotions for Daily Worship: African American Edition (2025), Roberts explained, "She was working on a song, and she said, 'I want you to listen to something,' and she started singing the lyrics, 'I’ve got a feeling everything’s gonna be alright.' She just gave me the first line, and I said, 'I can do something with that for you.' I added the music to the rest of it, and the other four stanzas of the song, and the vamp."
