202. Songs of the Ages

1 List to the songs of the ages,
Floating o’er all the earth;
Telling the joyful tidings,
Of the blessed Saviour’s birth.
All through the years of darkness,
Still was their music heard;
Chanting the world’s redemption,
Teaching the precious word.
List to the songs, List to the songs,
List to the songs of the ages.

2 Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new-born King,
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!”
Joyful all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th’angelic host proclaim,
Christ is born in Bethlehem!
With th’angelic host proclaim,
Christ is born in Bethlehem!

3 And now in softer strain,
There comes a sweet refrain,
It breathes o’er all the earth,
And tells of Jesus’ birth.
Silent night! hallowed night!
Land and deep silent sleep,—
Softly glitters bright Bethlehem’s star,
Beck’ning Israel’s eye from afar,
Where the Saviour is born,—
Where the Saviour is born.

4 Then let us all unite
In one triumphant song;
And with the voice of ages past
The sound prolong.
O come, all ye faithful,
Triumphantly sing!
Come, see in the manger
The angel’s dread King!
To Bethlehem hasten,
With joyful accord.
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord!
Amen.
