Worship, and Thanks, and Blessing

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 7.7.8.7 D Appears in 34 hymnals Lyrics: 1. Worship, and thanks, and blessing, And strength ascribe to Jesus! Jesus alone defends His own, When earth and hell oppress us! Jesus with joy we witness Almighty to deliver; Our seals set to, that God is true, And reigns a King for ever. 2. Omnipotent Redeemer, Our ransomed souls adore Thee; Our Savior Thou, we find it now, And give Thee all the glory. We sing Thine arm unshortened, Brought through our sore temptation; With heart and voice in Thee rejoice, The God of our salvation. 3. Thine arm hath safely brought us A way no more expected, Than when Thy sheep passed through the deep, By crystal walls protected. Th glory was our rearward, Thy hand our lives did cover, And we, e’en we, have passed the sea, And marched triumphant over. 4. Save as devoted Peter Betwixt the soldiers sleeping, Like sheep we lay to wolves a prey, Yet still in Jesus’ keeping. Thou from th’infernal Herod, And Jewish expectation, Hast set us free! All praise to Thee O God of our salvation. 5. The world and Satan’s malice Thou, Jesus, hast confounded; And, by Thy grace, with songs of praise Our happy souls resounded. Accepting our deliverance, We triumph in Thy favor, And for the love which now we prove, Shall praise Thy name forever. Father Of Earth And Heaven

Author: Henry Ware, Jr. Meter: 7.7.8.7 D Appears in 3 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Father of earth and Heaven, Whose arm upholds creation, To Thee we raise the voice of praise, And bend in adoration. We praise the power that made us, We praise the love that blesses; While every day that rolls away Thy gracious care confesses. 2 Life is from Thee, blest Father, From Thee our breathing spirits; And Thou dost give to all that live The bliss that each inherits. Day, night, and rolling seasons, And all that life embraces, With bliss are crowned, with joy abound, And claim our thankful praises. 3 Though trial and affliction May cast their dark shade o’er us, Thy love doth throw a heav’nly glow Of light on all before us. That love has smiled from Heaven To cheer our path of sadness, And lead the way, through earth’s dull day, To realms of endless gladness. 4 That light of love and glory Has shone through Christ the Savior, The holy Guide who lived and died That we might live forever. And since Thy great compassion Thus brings Thy children near Thee, May we to praise devote our days, And love as well as fear Thee. 5 And when death’s final summons From earth’s dear scenes shall move us, From friends, from foes, from joys, from woes, From all that know and love us, O, then, let hope attend us; Thy peace to us be given; That we may rise above the skies, And sing Thy praise in Heaven. Jesus, The Glory Take!

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 7.7.8.7 D Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 Jesus, the glory take! Afflicted, and oppressed, Reviled and hated for Thy sake, Thou hast pronounced us blest: The blessing we receive, We all our seal set to, Now, Lord, we feelingly believe, And own that Thou art true. 2 Faithful and good Thou art; We taste the heavenly powers, The glorious earnest in our heart Ensures the kingdom ours: Exceeding glad we are, Our ravished bosoms swell With ecstasy too strong to bear, With joy unspeakable. 3 Through persecution bold, To Thee our songs we raise; Thee in the furnace we behold, Thee in the fires we praise: We now the promise know, Sufficient is Thy love To bear us thro’ these storms below, And land us safe above. 4 To suffer now is sweet, For Thou the strength hast given: And O! how infinitely great Is our reward in Heaven! We shall be surely there, The fight will soon be won; The cross we now with Jesus bear Shall lift us to the throne. 5 ’Twas thus the saints of God, His messengers and seers The narrow path of sufferings trod, And past the vale of tears, Through sore afflictions past To better worlds above, And more than conquered all at last In our Redeemer’s love. 6 Sufferers like them beneath, Through much distress and pain, Through all the toils of hell and death We come with them to reign: With Christ the glorious King, Who wipes our tears away, And calls us up His praise to sing In everlasting day.
