Love, Mighty and Wonderful

Author: Mrs. Anna M. Robbins Hymnal: The Best of All #218 (1910) Hymnal Title: The Best of All First Line: Love in its grandeur, its majesty see Refrain First Line: Love, love, mighty and wonderful! Lyrics: 1 Love in its grandeur, its majesty see, Love in its greatness for you and for me, Love in its fulness of strength when it came, Cloth’d in the sweetness of Jesus’ dear name. Refrain: Love, love, mighty and wonderful! Love, love, so precious, so free! Love, love, mighty and wonderful! Reaching to you and to me. 2 Precious, how precious, this wonderful love, Reaching in mercy to earth from above; Measureless, boundless, and infinite sea, Such is God’s love unto you and to me. [Refrain] 3 Let us rejoice in his love ev’ry day, Tell the glad story to all by the way; Bringing to Jesus, in love’s sweet control, Each ransom’d power of body and soul. [Refrain] 4 Earth will be brighter, its pleasures more dear, When the kind voice of the Saviour you hear; Calling you upward to joys that endure, Pleasures eternal abiding and pure. [Refrain] 5 Softly and gently love’s billows shall roll, Filling with rapture and glory my soul; Jesus, thy love in its beauty doth shine, Flooding my heart with a radiance divine. Pleasures eternal abiding and pure. [Refrain] Tune Title: [Love in its grandeur, its majesty see]

1838 - 1921 Person Name: Wm. J. Kirkpatrick Hymnal Title: The Best of All Composer of "[Love in its grandeur, its majesty see]" in The Best of All William J. Kirkpatrick (b. Duncannon, PA, 1838; d. Philadelphia, PA, 1921) received his musical training from his father and several other private teachers. A carpenter by trade, he engaged in the furniture business from 1862 to 1878. He left that profession to dedicate his life to music, serving as music director at Grace Methodist Church in Philadelphia. Kirkpatrick compiled some one hundred gospel song collections; his first, Devotional Melodies (1859), was published when he was only twenty-one years old. Many of these collections were first published by the John Hood Company and later by Kirkpatrick's own Praise Publishing Company, both in Philadelphia. Bert Polman
