Loved with Everlasting Love

Author: Rev. Wade Robinson Hymnal: The Praise Book #96 (1906) Lyrics: 1 Loved with everlasting love, Led by grace that love to know; Spirit, breathing from above, Thou hast taught me it is so! Oh, this full and perfect peace! Oh, this transport all divine! In a love which cannot cease, I am His, and He is mine. 2 Heaven above is softer blue, Earth around is sweeter green! Something lives in ev’ry hue Christless eyes have never seen; Birds with gladder songs o’erflow, Flow’rs with deeper beauties shine. Since I know, as I now know, I am His, and He is mine. 3 Things that once were wild alarms Cannot now disturb my rest; Closed in everlasting arms, Pillowed on the loving breast. Oh, to lie forever here, Doubt and care and self resign, While He whispers in my ear, I am His, and He is mine. 4 His forever, only His; Who the Lord and me shall part? Ah, with what a rest of bliss, Christ can fill the loving heart! Heaven and earth may fade and flee, First born light in gloom decline; But, while God and I shall be, I am His, and He is mine. Loved with Everlasting Love

Author: George W. Robinson; Rev. Edmund P. Clowney Hymnal: Trinity Psalter Hymnal #483 (2018) Meter: 7.7.7.7 D Lyrics: 1 Loved with everlasting love, drawn by grace that love to know, Spirit sent from Christ above, thou dost witness it is so. O this full and precious peace from his presence all divine; in a love that cannot cease, I am his and he is mine. 2 Heav'n above is deeper blue, earth around is sweeter green, that which glows in ev'ry hue Christless eyes have never seen. Birds in song his glories show, flow'rs with richer beauties shine since I know, as now I know, I am his and he is mine. 3 Taste the goodness of the Lord: welcomed home to his embrace, all his love, as blood outpoured, seals the pardon of his grace. Can I doubt his love for me, when I trace that love's design? By the cross of Calvary I am his and he is mine. 4 His forever, only his-- who the Lord and me shall part? Ah, with what a rest of bliss Christ can fill the loving heart. Heav'n and earth may fade and flee, firstborn light in gloom decline, but while God and I shall be, I am his and he is mine. Topics: Abiding in Christ; Christ Cross of; Christian Life; God Love and Grace of; Peace and Joy Scripture: Jeremiah 31:3 Languages: English Tune Title: EVERLASTING LOVE

William F. Sherwin

1826 - 1888 Composer of "[Loved with everlasting love]" in Unity Song Selections Sherwin, William Fisk, an American Baptist, was born at Buckland, Massachusetts, March 14,1826. His educational opportunities, so far as schools were concerned, were few, but he made excellent use of his time and surroundings. At fifteen he went to Boston and studied music under Dr. Mason: In due course he became a teacher of vocal music, and held several important appointments in Massachusetts; in Hudson and Albany, New York County, and then in New York City. Taking special interest in Sunday Schools, he composed carols and hymn-tunes largely for their use, and was associated with the Rev. R. Lowry and others in preparing Bright Jewels, and other popular Sunday School hymn and tune books. A few of his melodies are known in Great Britain through I. D. Sankey's Sacred Songs and Solos, where they are given with his signature. His hymnwriting was limited. The following pieces are in common use:— 1. Grander than ocean's story (1871). The Love of God. 2. Hark, bark, the merry Christmas bells. Christmas Carol. 3. Lo, the day of God is breaking. The Spiritual Warfare. 4. Wake the song of joy and gladness. Sunday School or Temperance Anniversary. 5. Why is thy faith, 0 Child of God, so small. Safety in Jesus. Mr. Sherwin died at Boston, Massachusetts, April 14, 1888. -- John Julian, Dictionary of Hymnology (1907) ================== Sherwin, W. F., p. 1055, i. Another hymn from his Bright Jewels, 1869, p. 68, is "Sound the battle cry" (Christian Courage), in the Sunday School Hymnary, 1905, and several other collections. --John Julian, Dictionary of Hymnology, New Supplement (1907)

Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy

1809 - 1847 Person Name: Mendelssohn Composer of "CLAPHAM" in The New Laudes Domini Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (b. Hamburg, Germany, 1809; d. Leipzig, Germany, 1847) was the son of banker Abraham Mendelssohn and the grandson of philosopher Moses Mendelssohn. His Jewish family became Christian and took the Bartholdy name (name of the estate of Mendelssohn's uncle) when baptized into the Lutheran church. The children all received an excellent musical education. Mendelssohn had his first public performance at the age of nine and by the age of sixteen had written several symphonies. Profoundly influenced by J. S. Bach's music, he conducted a performance of the St. Matthew Passion in 1829 (at age 20!) – the first performance since Bach's death, thus reintroducing Bach to the world. Mendelssohn organized the Domchor in Berlin and founded the Leipzig Conservatory of Music in 1843. Traveling widely, he not only became familiar with various styles of music but also became well known himself in countries other than Germany, especially in England. He left a rich treasury of music: organ and piano works, overtures and incidental music, oratorios (including St. Paul or Elijah and choral works, and symphonies. He harmonized a number of hymn tunes himself, but hymnbook editors also arranged some of his other tunes into hymn tunes. Bert Polman

Anonymous

Person Name: Anon. Author of "Loved with everlasting love" in The Academic Hymnal In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.
