Sinners, haste to mercy's gate

Author: Anon. Hymnal: The Seventh-Day Adventist Hymn and Tune Book #407 (1886) Lyrics: 1 Sinners, haste to mercy's gate, Strive, O strive to enter there; Hasten, lest ye come too late, Lest in vain shall be your prayer. 2 Soon the Saviour will arise, And forever shut the door; Hopeless then will be your cries; God will welcome you no more. 3 From his glorious seat within, Zion's King so long forgot, Then will say, "Ye slaves of sin, Hence depart, I know you not." 4 O! the anguish of that word, Anguish which no measure knows, Sinners, haste to seek the Lord, Ere the door of mercy close. Anonymous

Person Name: Anon. Author of "Sinners, haste to mercy's gate" in The Seventh-Day Adventist Hymn and Tune Book In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.
