With grateful hearts and tuneful lays

Hymnal: Book of Worship (Rev. ed.) #493 (1870) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 With grateful hearts and tuneful lays, We bow before th'eternal throne, And offer up our humble praise To Him whose name is God alone. 2 On this auspicious hour draw near, And shed Thy richest blessings down; Fill ev'ry heart with love sincere, And all Thy faithful mercies crown. 3 Grant now Thy presence, gracious Lord, And hearken to our fervent prayer; The nuptial vow in heaven record, And bless the newly married pair. 4 Oh, guide them safe this desert through, 'Mid all the cares of life and love, At length, with joy, Thy face to view, In fairer, better worlds above. Anonymous

Person Name: Anon. Author of "With grateful hearts and tuneful lays" in A Collection of Hymns, for the use of the United Brethren in Christ In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.
