The sign of the cross I triumphantly bear, Though none of my kindred that emblem may wear. The Pillar that guides us through peril and strife, The Rock that is cleft, giving waters of life, Is Christ and His cross. By His Spirit and Word The heart He refreshes, the heart He refreshes, The heart He refreshes, our Savior and Lord. 3. How Blest Are the Moments That Jesus Bestows

Author: John Telleen Hymnal: The Hymnal and Order of Service #463 (1926) Meter: 11.11.11.6.6.11 Lyrics: 1 How blest are the moments that Jesus bestows, When wonders of grace to the spirit He shows! His Word lights the way to the heavenly goal, His Spirit is near us, His Spirit is near us, To teach us, and cheer us, and comfort our soul! 2 Lord Jesus, our Saviour, A Pentecost give To quicken, and strengthen, and cause us to live; Grant faith and give love, and in mercy bestow Whatever is needed, Whatever is needed, To exercise faith in our hearts here below. 3 Our hearts are as cold and as hard as a stone; Such are they by nature, and Thou art alone, On earth and in heaven, the Saviour who can, A new heart creating, A new heart creating, A new heart creating, make each a new man. 4 From sorrows of earth Thou wilt now turn our mind, For days that are coming, O help us to find Our joy and our comfort in what Thou hast wrought; For we are Thy people, For we are Thy people, With blood and with anguish so preciously bought. 5 Topics: Way of Salvation Sanctification; Prayer for Love Languages: English Tune Title: ACK, SALIGA STUNDER

He wrote the music for many of Lina Sandell’s hymns. A pietist, he raised some concern in the State-church, but his music was apparently so popular, King Karl XV gave him permission to play and sing in both of his kingdoms. Ahnfelt’s music has spread throughout the world; two of his best-known songs are “Children of the Heavenly Father” and “Day by Day.” Laura de Jong

Chicago, IL, 1958) prepared the English translation for the 1925 Hymnal of the Lutheran Augustana Synod. As editor, writer, poet, and translator, Olson made a valuable contribution to Swedish-American culture and to church music. His family immigrated to Nebraska when he was five years old, but he spent much of his life in the Chicago area. Educated at Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, he was editor of several Swedish-American newspapers and spent most of his professional career as an editor for the Augustana Book Concern (1911-1949). Olson wrote History of the Swedes in Illinois (1908). He also contributed four original hymns and twenty-eight translations to The Hymnal (1925) of the Evangelical Lutheran Augustana Synod and served on the committee that produced the Lutheran Service Book and Hymnal (1958). In his activities as a lay preacher Rosenius was often accompanied by the singer-hymnist, Oscar Ahnfelt, and his lyrics were published in the latter's Andeliga Sånger (Spiritual Songs).
