Author of "Hallelujah! Raise the Song" in AGO Founders Hymnal In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.

J. Warren Andrews

1860 - 1932 Person Name: J. Warren Andrews, 1860-1932 Composer of "[Hallelujah! raise the song]" in AGO Founders Hymnal A Founder of the American Guild of Organists, J. Warren Andrews was born on April 6, 1860, in Lynn, Massachusetts. He held his first post as organist at age twelve in Swampscott, Massachusetts. When 16, he became organist of the First Baptist Church, Lynn, Massachusetts, and of Boston Street Methodist Church. Andrews was later organist of Old Trinity Church, Newport, Rhode Island (1879-88), Pilgrim Church, Cambridge, Massachusetts (1888-91), Plymouth Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota (1891-98), and Church of the Divine Paternity, New York City (1898-1932). Andrews was warden of the AGO from 1913 to 1916. He died at his home in Grantwood, New Jersey, at the age of 71 on January 18, 1932. His widow, two songs, a daughter, and his 91-year-old mother survived him. (Source: Obituary, New York Times (January 19, 1932) 21, cited in AGO Founders Hymnal p. 83)
