Sing with All the Saints in Glory

Author: William J. Irons Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 109 hymnals Lyrics: 1. Sing with all the saints in glory, sing the resurrection song! Death and sorrow, earth's dark story, to the former days belong. All around the clouds are breaking, soon the storms of time shall cease; in God's likeness we, awaking, know the everlasting peace. 2. O what glory, far exceeding all that eye has yet perceived! Holiest hearts, for ages pleading, never that full joy conceived. God has promised, Christ prepares it, there on high our welcome waits. Every humble spirit shares it; Christ has passed th'eternal gates. 3. Life eternal! heaven rejoices: Jesus lives, who once was dead. Join we now the deathless voices; child of God, lift up your head! Patriarchs from the distant ages, saints all longing for their heaven, prophets, psalmists, seers, and sages, all await the glory given. 4. Life eternal! O what wonders crowd on faith; what joy unknown, when, amidst earth's closing thunders, saints shall stand before the throne! O to enter that bright portal, see that glowing firmament; know, with thee, O God Immortal, "Jesus Christ whom thou has sent!" Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; Drive the dark of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day! 2 All Thy works with joy surround Thee, Earth and heav’n reflect Thy rays, Stars and angels sing around Thee, Center of unbroken praise. Field and forest, vale and mountain, Flow’ry meadow, flashing sea, Singing bird and flowing fountain Call us to rejoice in Thee. 3 Thou art giving and forgiving, Ever blessing, ever blest, Wellspring of the joy of living, Ocean depth of happy rest! Thou our Father, Christ our Brother, All who live in love are Thine; Teach us how to love each other, Lift us to the joy divine. 4 Mortals, join the happy chorus, Which the morning stars began; Father love is reigning o’er us, Brother love binds man to man. Joy, Thou Goddess

Fashion’s laws, indeed, may sever, but thy magic joins again; humankind is one forever ‘neath thy mild and gentle reign. 2 Joy, in nature’s wide dominion, mightiest cause of all is found; and ‘tis joy that moves the pinion, when the wheel of time goes round; from the bud she lures the flower, suns from out their orbs of light; distant spheres obey her power, far beyond all mortal sight.

1770 - 1827 Person Name: Ludwig van Beethoven, 1770-1827 Composer of "HYMN TO JOY" in One in Faith A giant in the history of music, Ludwig van Beethoven (b. Bonn, Germany, 1770; d. Vienna, Austria, 1827) progressed from early musical promise to worldwide, lasting fame. By the age of fourteen he was an accomplished viola and organ player, but he became famous primarily because of his compositions, including nine symphonies, eleven overtures, thirty piano sonatas, sixteen string quartets, the Mass in C, and the Missa Solemnis. He wrote no music for congregational use, but various arrangers adapted some of his musical themes as hymn tunes; the most famous of these is ODE TO JOY from the Ninth Symphony. Although it would appear that the great calamity of Beethoven's life was his loss of hearing, which turned to total deafness during the last decade of his life, he composed his greatest works during this period. Small Church Music

Editors: Brian A. Wren Description: History The SmallChurchMusic site was launched in 2006, growing out of the requests from those struggling to provide suitable music for their services and meetings. Rev. Clyde McLennan was ordained in mid 1960’s and was a pastor in many small Australian country areas, and therefore was acutely aware of this music problem. Having also been trained as a Pipe Organist, recordings on site (which are a subset of the smallchurchmusic.com site) are all actually played by Clyde, and also include piano and piano with organ versions. About the Recordings All recordings are in MP3 format. Churches all around the world use the recordings, with downloads averaging over 60,000 per month. The recordings normally have an introduction, several verses and a slowdown on the last verse. Users are encouraged to use software: Audacity (http://www.audacityteam.org) or Song Surgeon (http://songsurgeon.com) to adjust the MP3 number of verses, tempo and pitch to suit their local needs. Mobile App We have partnered with the developer of the popular NetTracks mobile app to offer the Small Church Music collection as a convenient mobile app. Experience the beloved Small Church Music collection through this iOS app featuring nearly 10,000 high-quality hymn recordings that can be organized into custom setlists and downloaded for offline use—ideal for worship services without musicians, congregational practice, and personal devotion. The app requires a small fee to cover maintenance costs. Please note: While Hymnary.org hosts this music collection, technical support for the app is provided exclusively by the app developer, not by Hymnary.org staff. LicensingCopyright notice: Rev.
