The Burden Bearer

Appears in 15 hymnals First Line: O the blessed promise given on the fields of Galilee Refrain First Line: When the Burden Bearer came Lyrics: 1 O the blessed promise given on the fields of Galilee, To the weary, heavy laden, still ‘tis made to you and me; Many hearts have thrilled to heart it, many tears been wiped away, Many loads of sin been lifted, many midnights turned to day. Refrain: When the Burden Bearer came, When the Burden Bearer came, And beyond the shining river we shall bless His holy name, That to bear our sins and sorrows Christ, the Burden Bearer, came. 2 Many broken contrite spirits, many sorrowing and sad, Felt the mighty consolation, heard the wondrous tidings glad; And the dying gazed with rapture, trusting in the Saviour’s name, To that land of rest and refuge, where the Burden Bearer came. [Refrain] 3 Every phase of human sorrow fills the path we tread today; Harps are hanging on the willows, souls are fainting by the way; But there still is balm in Gilead, and though here on earth we weep, God within the blessed mansions grants His child in joy to reap. [Refrain] 4 In the clouds His rainbow glitters, shines the stars of faith above; God will not forsake or leave us, let us trust His wondrous love, And beyond the shining river we shall bless His holy name, That to bear our sins and sorrows Christ, the Burden Bearer, came. [Refrain] Topics: Salvation Used With Tune: [O the blessed promise given on the fields of Galilee]
