Aufranc (1892-1980) Meter: 11.10.11.10 Appears in 3 hymnals First Line: Far from all care we hail the Sabbath morning Lyrics: 1 Far from all care we hail the Sabbath morning; O’er waving fields and from the distant sea Swell notes of praise in harmony resounding As all creation turns her heart to Thee. 2 Though man alone, Lord, of Thy great creation Fails now to laud Thee for Thy love and power, Yet still a remnant love Thee and remember Thy holy law and each sweet Sabbath hour. 3 Lord of the Sabbath, Savior and Creator, Calm now the throbbings of each troubled breast. Speak to our hearts the peace of Thy commandments, Breathe on each soul fair Eden’s hallowed rest. 4 Strong in Thy might and quiet in Thy meekness, May we Thine image bear from day to day. Then may we enter pearly gates eternal And sing redemption’s song each Sabbath day. Topics: Doctrines Sabbath Used With Tune: PEVENSEY

D. A. R. Aufranc

1892 - 1979 Author of "Far From All Care" in The Church Hymnal D.A.R. Aufranc was a physician and dentist in London. He was a third generation Adventist. His grandfather, a professor of languages and translator, was one of the first European converts to the church, due to the efforts of J. N. Andrews in Switzerland. He became a well-known physician and served as an advisor for the Good Health Association, a group of Adventist medical institutions in Great Britain. Additionally, at the time of the coronation of King George VI in 1937, an article by Aufranc, "Fighting against Death," was one of eleven featured in a church commemorative magazine published in Britain titled This Century of Wonders. He was a regular contributor in the 1930s and early 1940s to the world church's official magazine, Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, later the Review and Herald, authoring both articles and poems. He also wrote practical articles on health, which appeared in the church's Life and Health magazine. Apart from the hymns that he composed for the SDA Church, he longed to be a successful composer of popular music, as played by the dance bands of the day. http://www.iamaonline.com/Bio/Raoul_Aufranc.htm (excerpts)

Small Church Music

Editors: D. A. R. Aufranc Description: The SmallChurchMusic site was launched in 2006, growing out of the requests from those struggling to provide suitable music for their services and meetings. Rev. Clyde McLennan was ordained in mid 1960’s and was a pastor in many small Australian country areas, and therefore was acutely aware of this music problem. Having also been trained as a Pipe Organist, recordings on site (which are a subset of the smallchurchmusic.com site) are all actually played by Clyde, and also include piano and piano with organ versions. All recordings are in MP3 format. Churches all around the world use the recordings, with downloads averaging over 60,000 per month. The recordings normally have an introduction, several verses and a slowdown on the last verse. Users are encouraged to use software: Audacity (http://www.audacityteam.org) or Song Surgeon (http://songsurgeon.com) (see http://scm-audacity.weebly.com for more information) to adjust the MP3 number of verses, tempo and pitch to suit their local needs. Copyright notice: Rev. Clyde McLennan, performer in this collection, has assigned his performer rights in this collection to Hymnary.org. Non-commercial use of these recordings is permitted.
